New computer.

My Dad just bought my me Christmas Present on Newegg.
It consisted of:
Intel Core i7-920 2.66GHz
Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 Motherboard
Corsair DDR3-1600 2GB Triple channel kit
So I went ahead and finished it up...
Cooler Master HAF 932 Full tower case
Cooler Master UCP 900W PS
Sapphire ATi HD5870 1GB
Crucial 64GB SSD
HighPoint RocketRAID 3510 hardware RAID card (already had from last system)
4x 500GB Seagate 7200.11 in RAID 5 on above (already have. About 1.4TB usable space)
Pioneer SATA 18x DVD-R drive (Already had.)
LG Blu-Ray Burner

Except for my first computer (a C-64) and a recent netbook, I have built every computer I have had since the 1980s. The last computer I built, I was able to use my previous case, power supply, DVD burner and some other stuff.

Every on has been a success. One of the big advantages is that you can spurge on things that matter like a premium quality power supply and cut back on something that means less to you.

You might be able to do significant upgrades in the future, or not.... Motherboards often become obsolete and it gets cheaper to buy a new M'board and CPU than to upgrade a CPU with an obsolete socket.

It's a triple channel kit, likely meaning he's got 6GB total.
 
Yes, 3x 2GB for 6GB total. To clarify, he got me the ram, cpu, motherboard and copy of 7. I purchased the rest (or had it, lol)
This is a gigantic leap from what I had.

Your P4 3.2 is a gigantic leap from what I use at home: Athlon XP 1600 (1.4GHz), still usable but nothing to write home about.
 
Yeah, it does pretty well, for everything except heavy duty gaming. For browsing the web or whatever, its perfectly adequate. Ive even watched 1080P movies on it. (24" monitor) That 9800GT graphics card off loads the cpu and its fine.

So, I just got it put together, and it does not work. When I turn it on, every LED lights up on the motherboard and the GPU fan spins up to full speed. The two times I have gotten it to turn on, it runs fine for about 30-45 seconds then auto restarts and fails to start again.
 
If it has onboard graphics, test without that or any other card. Disconnect all your drives. Ideally, you'll have just a motherboard, processor, and a fan. Clear your CMOS, then add parts from there until it hangs again.

Keep us apprised of your progress.
 
CPU is overheating would be my guess. Take off the heat sink look at the thermal compound to make sure its evenly touching the CPU. Make sure the heat sink is at least warm or hot like it should be.
