Been trying to put this together since this time last year, and I finally got it going.
Its got:
Gigabyte GA-790XTA-UD4 M/B
AMD Phenom II X4 955 @ 3.6GHz
Thermalright Ultra-120 cooler
2x 2GB Geil DDR3-1333
2x 2GB Corsair DDR3-1600
Sapphire ATI HD5870 1GB
Hitachi Deskstar 2TB HD
LG 8x BD-Burner
Windows 7 Professional
Cooler Master UCP 700W

Though, the Corsair ram and the HD5870 were both originally in my machine. I gave them to him after I upgraded mine. They were not really 'free'.
It still needs a better case. Right now, he is using a full tower server case I had that I absolutely hate.
For a monitor I have it hooked up to a 32" 1080P TV.
Also need a wireless keyboard and mouse, or possibly just a gamepad. At the moment I have him set up using a program called Synergy to use the mouse and keyboard from his laptop on it. Issue with that is, for some reason when playing FPS games, the mouse acceleration goes over 9000 and as a result, it is impossible to play.
