I don’t have any doubts that this was perfectly safe to use. This is an oddity for me. Completely different tapping plate, bypass valve and a leaf spring. Purchased from Rock Auto, so I doubt it’s counterfeit. Otherwise built like a tank, nice pliable nitrile ADBV, 98 sq in of cellulose media, minor light leak at bypass. I’m still happy with the brand

Baldwin could tell you if it counterfeit. I think it is. RA often buys surplus stock and there is no assurance the product came from Baldwin going through another seller. If it is or isn’t I would scratch their name off my list. Very few on the list now.
In the third pic, isn’t that the base from the top filter with old Baldwin louvers?

Yeah, pretty ratty looking louvers and all over the map. A few don't look bad, then some are small slits and I think I even see some that don't even have any opening and are just a bump. Louver forming ... more complicated than building a 5th generation fighter jet, lol.

Might have been a contract run by another filter maker. They all cross pollinate each other from time to time.

Yes the counterfeit Baldwins are built to a higher standard......
