The mechanic was obviously using too heavy an oil. The startup noise was due to a comparably inadaquate initial oil flow and the viscous drag of 20w-50 oil, cut his MPGs by at least 2 MPG. The story is not over though, I expect that when all the gunk is cleaned out and the rings seal better, his performance will improve. This remains to be seen.

I think our country just maxed the 5th card. Been a fun ride though. Surely someone will know we're good for a 6th card.

At least Amsoil hasn't dropped the quality. Cost increases have been higher than ever before and yet Amsoil continues to make better oils.

Pablo,
It was the used oil. It is normally a light amber color at change time. It was a much darker last change, with no difference in driving patterns or mileage.

I am going to put 4,000 miles on the SSO this go round to see if there any changes in the UOA.

Repeat after me....

COLOR DOES NOT MATTER....

Running SSO for 4k miles is a WASTE. If you don't go AT LEAST 10k you need to run something else.

REALLY...

Sorry but come on.. You've been here long enough.

Is the SSO still considered the best overall oil available?
I don't want to get whacked by some bearded dude with a foreign accent.

harry, Amsoil has discontinued the sale of SSO to Florida due to new regulations. You will no longer be able to use it. Sorry pal.
