New Alternative to Fram Ultra (New design)?

Give it some time though, someone will cut up a premium guard and find a defect as some point,

yes of course that is inevitable with any company but it is the frequency that matters.. @BrendanC has cut open so many filters in his years that he is a good example of an authority on something like FREQUENCY of defect and afaik the PG stuff kicks most others to the curb without breaking a sweat.
 
Doesn't need a wire backing since it's 2 layer, with cellulose on back layer, which makes it more rigid. Synthetic media only needs a wire or mesh backing, due to being less rigid and prevents media from collapsing and in worse case scenario; bunching up on itself due to overuse.

Why would someone willingly choose to watch a video with a cover that looks like it was designed to cater to 4 year olds? You supposed to slide this in between episodes of Dora the Explorer, Big Comfy Couch and The Backyardigans? The Youtube algorithm must truly be catering to the lowest common denominator, ugh. Otherwise, I see no reason why an adult would intentionally make what I assume is designed to be technical content, look this idiotic.

Won't be hard to beat fram since they went away from wire back synthetic media. I'm going to premium guard next time. I cut open my Fram Ultra with 9,000 on oil, it appears it's not wired back and has newer media, has 52 pleats and old ultra had like 34 pleats and some pleats were bonded together with no spacing and other areas big gaps and is very fibrous looking and easily tears. I tore a pleat or two getting it out of can as you can see where i pried out with screwdriver, end caps dented in. I crushed can a bit taking it off with my wrench. I sent oil out to Blackstone Labs for analysis, that will be in a different thread.

I watch them all, can't judge a book by it's cover. Unless it's a engineer from the manufacture, it's all conjecture and theories and opinions from everyone and thats ok. Some people have good opinions but rarely facts from advanced testing that meets the same specs as the manufacturers.

Filters are dumb and don’t know what engine they are on or what vehicle that engine is in.

A filter just filter and flows. There’s nothing unique about a particular engine or vehicle, everything just comes down to requirements. A filter has to have X efficiency with less than Y delta P at Z flow rate of some viscosity spec oil, and keep all this in place for some total volume of filtered oil. That’s about it. There rest of the requirements come down to not falling off, not rusting out, etc.

Flow, efficiency, capacity (life). That’s it. Nothing magical here.

Except for those Subarus with the insane oil pump volume output. Still hard for me to believe the pump feeding the oiling system is actually putting out that much volume, like around 13 GPM which would exchange a 5 quart sump 10.4 times every minute (once every 5.8 seconds).

It’s still just a flow requirement, albeit a higher one.

Question......So reading the chart of data at the beginning of this thread, that chart says the Carquest Premium is 30u. But now I thought I read it was 20u, and I bought 15 thinking it was 20u. Any idea which is the correct micron level?

That chart is old data from before CQP was made by PGI. Here is the current efficiency. 99.5%@20 microns.

Forgot how dinky that 6607 size was. I know it is a common consolidation downsize for the 7317 in lube shops.
 
CQP is usually a better buy (Code SPRING will get you at $7.99 at the moment) and some of them are made in Vietnam depending on size.

While I'd pick Vietnam over China, the Chinese ones are not worth paying extra to avoid.

So only because of price? What if both cost the same?
