Hey, I loved my Forenza so much that Suzuki gave me my own page on their site!

Love My Suzuki Page

I also got a $25 gift card for the effort, which may have had some influence on my decision to write them. It was enough to buy a case or two of on-sale motor oil at the time . . .

Thanks! I really think the color works well on the wagon . . . kind of rugged and utilitarian. Have you seen it on the sedan? Ugh! I think the local dealer still has a new Desert Green 2005 sedan on the lot. Apparently nobody else likes it either.

If you haven't changed the oil yet, you're in for a real treat. It's best to access everything from under the right front wheel well.

I treated myself to that experience tonight. I NEED to put a fumoto valve under there. I lost the bolt in the oil drain pan. I was trying to just let the oil dribble out, but I went too far in loosening the drain bolt... The filter is kind of a pain to get to. I didn't remove the plastic shield, but put a funnel up in there and caught the oil that way - redirected it into a bucket. All in all it was pretty simple, but I am wanting to go at least 5,000 miles before I experience that again! Or, just take it in and then just worry about the cleanup. I wonder how the dealer did it without making a mess all over... do I dare think that they didn't change it at all?

Now now, they just use a can of brake clean to spray it down while in the air. That is what we do. Oh when changing your oil make sure to get the replacement brass gaskets for the drain plug, their like a Quarter and are a requirement. To many leak if not changed and after a couple changes are prone to getting forced into the thread inserts in the pan and pulling the factory HELI-COIL. Not ________. Just visit your Suzuki dealership and if they act like what are you talking about then have them lookup the TSB as it is a requirement at every oil change.

I have had to change out several Daewoo built Suzuki oil pans. Not hard but not fun either. TSB means Suzuki no longer responsible if they want to fight it. Spend a buck a get a few for a while.

I looked at Suzuki's website (very annoying voice-overs) and came away more confused than before. There are three separate hatch/wagon models, Aerio SX, Forenza wagon, and Reno that cost about the same $16200-$16700 in top trim (fwd auto). They all are about the same size and weight. But the Aerio with the bigger engine (2.3 vs 2.0) gets substantially better MPG. Why so many similar models? It seems like marketing confusion to me. Why not put the better mileage 2.3 engine in the others?

Tosh: The Aerio SX is made by Suzuki in Japan. It has odd styling and very little cargo area. It never sold well in the USA. So in an attempt to sell more cars, Suzuki America adopted the Korean GM-Daewoo (Nubira) sedan and hatch into their line as the Forenza and Reno. A year later, when GM-Daewoo came out with the wagon, it became the Forenza wagon. Suzuki does own a share of the GM-Daewoo venture, so it is actually sort-of a real Suzuki. The Korean cars are selling well, although they share no parts in common with the "real" Japanese Suzukis.

For the record, my Forenza Wagon usually gets better fuel economy than the EPA figures . . . as high as 33mpg highway with the auto trans. Some professional reviewers have mentioned the same thing. Apparently the Forenza isn't designed specifically for the EPA test circuit like some cars.

Another part of the reason for the confusing marketing is that GM wanted to sell the Daewoo based cars in the USA, but didn't want to compete with the Cobalt. There was also continued legal wranglings between GM the former Daewoo organization in the USA after GM bought out the Daewoo car factory. . . So GM turned to their (former) financial partner, Suzuki, to sell it here. In Canada the same cars are sold as Chevrolet Optras. Go figure.

Frankly, it's a pretty nicely equipped little car, especially for the price, and should prove to be quite durable.

Heard some talk of them stuffing a Suzuki Drivetrain in the Daewuki. Heck they just added the SX4 too. The Aerio SX is supposed to be going away with the release of the SX4. Go figure, well in all truth they specialize in smaller vehicles and as such those are their big cars. I know, I know Verona--- Well that was an off the shelf Daewoo design that did not do too well.
