I live in a fairly new 55 and over. There are sidewalks EVERYWHERE. Nobody uses them EVER. Everyone walks in the street.
I don't think it has to do with intelligence, just entitlement. People think "I have the right of way, so if they hit me they are wrong", which is true, but I grew up with the thinking that I would rather stand out of the way on the side of the road when the car passes and be alive than be "correct".Scroo'em. I was raised to be aware of vehicles on the road when I was walking or riding a bike. I still am. I am amazed at the number of 50, 60 and 70+ year old people who walk full-bore out of a grocery or other retail store, straight into the front drive aisle without even slowing down, looking to see if they are about to get killed or anything.
If anyone thinks the average intelligence in the US has risen over time, you are flat out wrong. We are a nation of people who think they are protected by rules and regulations.
It goes both ways. I drive cautiously in my neighborhood, but I also don't stand in the middle of the street at night wearing dark clothing scolding cars who can't see me.Glad none of you are living in my neighborhood.
Get off my lawn vibes in this thread increasing....
Conversely I am amazed how fast morons drive in parking lots/spots knowing at any moment a carriage, door, vehicle or person might pop out.Scroo'em. I disagree. The OP should NOT apologize. If he did, its not inconceivable his words end up in court at some point to be used against him.You did nothing wrong however apologize the encounter happened and move on. Dark clothing with no flashlight/headlamp is risky.

You might be “right” however that express ride to the body shop sucks or watching someone hauled off by ambulance and answering police questions.
I watched from my car in slow motion almost a real loser do 20 MPH near front of lot and wind take a loose carriage and seriously damage their front end.
