I live in a residential subdivision and my neighbor has cars parked in front of my house everyday. I know they legally can but it annoys me because they seem to have enough room. They don't have a garage but have a narrow long driveway that could hold 3 or 4 cars and could park 2 cars in front of thier house. They have 4 cars/

Anyone else get annoyed by neighbors parking in front of their house? I'm thinking parking my car in front of my house instead of the garage to change their behavior.

Based on what you're saying, it would be closer for him to part in front of his house, but not in the driveway, right? Unless he's got a leaker and would rather the drippings be in front of your house, I don't understand why he'd park in front of your house all the time.

Does he have a lot of guests over or something? If this really bothers you, and you're willing to take the risk of upsetting them, talk about it.

Just casually walk over, knock on the door, and start some small-talk. Then mention your visitors are having to park down the street and walk over, which isn't convenient for women in heels or anyone carrying things. Say this even if it isn't true or if it's a rare occurrence. Get them to empathize.

Narrow long driveway? Maybe they hate starting a car just to move it out of the way of another car.

And it's bad for the engine to do that.

They could have a totally sensible reason, like heading east in the AM to drop the kid off then coming in from the west on the way home with take-out.

there are several ways to approach this

#1 be reasonable.. have a good old fashion talk with your neighbor and simply ask them why they do it! ask them not to, be polite.

#2 If #1 doesnt work park your auto there for awhile..they might get the hint

#3 Park your auto infront of there house.

#4 put a sprinkler in you yard, set it to where it hits where they are parkeing (infront of your house) sprinkler in your grass. ((((it just so happens to get there car too))))))

Talking to your neighbor and expressing your disatisfaction with there choice of parking (in a nice way) is the most respectable, adult thing to do..

with the park at your own risk with a tow company ph number on it.
But i had a neighbor do that, they had multiple cars. I bet it was because it was a chore to back their car out to let the first car out of the driveway. so they parked in front of my house too. they just sold their house so they didn't care what I thought I bet.

Sounds like a typical metropolitan "multi-car" family.....

Our family has gone through this the past 3+ years

As the kids got older, more cars started rolling in....everyone's work/college/school schedule(s) are different, so there's no real "convenience" in parking in the drive way, without having to wake up people in the morning/afternoon to move their vehicle so someone else can either get in the drive way or out of the drive way

As the kids started growing up though, we started spending less time at home, my father devised an idea to either park "straight in" to the yard, or at an "angle" depending on who comes home first....

Now, this may not be a possibility if you are in an HOA (but if that were the case, would they allow parking on the street? hehe)....or if you have curb and gutter....here we do not

I'd ask the neighbor though.....what's up, and why he's parking in front of your yard.

I won't be talking to them, they are not reasonable. Their huge dog leaned over the fence as I cut the lawn and bit me in the shoulder a few months back. They are angry that they were forced to put up a higher fence to contain their dog and lied to the Police about the event(said I leaned over the fence).

Today again they have more cars on the street than in their driveway.
They could easily widen and flare out the diveway with gravel to hold another car and aleviate moving cars.

Do you have hard water? Turn your sprinklers on, showering his car. Oops, did I get your car wet?

If that doesn't work, mow you lawn, then leaf blow the crud onto his car.

What motivates you to be upset about this?

Is it multiple vehicles in your household? Do you have a home business that draws frequent visitors? Do you have daily friends and relatives over and need that space in front of your home?

On the flip side 15 years ago, i was the bad guy.. I had a 2 bedroom house and was renting out the second bedroom and the basement to buddys.. they had girls over, and friends over.. i had a one car garage.. i can remember lots of weekends where we took up the whole street both sides with gatherings at our place.. i know i upset a few neighbors.. one neighbor (tom) got mad and told me to stop parking infront of his house.. i told him it was public parking and i could park wherever i wanted.. it didnt go over well.. I could kick myself for some of the inconsiderate [censored] i did as a early 20' guy..

If you have a car the isn't used often, put that one in the front of your house. Stay away from their drive way a ways; not far enough so they can park behind you.

Leave it there for as long as possible.

I like the sprinkler idea too.

Ask the local P.D. about parking regulations. I got a ticket once for leaving a car on the street-not moved or driven- for more than four days. City ordinance,

If you don't want a confrontation but want them to get the point, park your own cars in front of your house leaving a ton of room in between them, but not enough to park a car, should only take 2 or 3 cars to cover your whole front curb.

Or go on the attack by weed whacking right on the curb next to his car, sprinkler on his car, or mow your lawn and make sure to have the exit point of the deck spraying on his car, or box him in with your cars.

If you do the sprinkler method, turn on the sprinklers an hr before you mow, make sure it gets his car, then throw the wet grass onto the wet car so it sticks..

1 I don't like looking at their car all day when looking out my front window.
2 I feel like they are being lazy and rude.
3 The visual obstruction makes it more likely to get clipped by another vehicle when backing out.
4 Added obstruction mowing the lawn or try to edging
5 They leave cigarette wrapers, candy wrappers, rubbish in my lawn when they get out of their car.
6 My elderly parents should be able to used the spot when needed.
7 In the winter when the streets are plowed, I do not get the street cleared up to my driveway causing me more work.

Last winter I did not get mail delivered because the street was not plowed close to the mailbox because of their car. I had to shovel the street as they did not offer any help. I did confront them and told them not to park there because I was not getting mail but they did not listen.
