My E90 got hit while parked

Love to see this.

I also have a 2011 328i (n51 - xdrive) bought as the 2nd owner here in the PNW- has been garaged since new. Mine now has 41k miles.

Any advice on the best touch up paint? I have a few rock chips on the otherwise perfect space grey finish-from the first owner. I have heard "Dr. Color Chip" was good.

Y'all:

I finished the E90 an hour ago. The more I age the more I wish I had a lift. I got up and down off the garage floor probably 100 times in the last two days.

The only available BMW OEM replacement M-Sport bumper has cut outs for headlight washers. I bought OEM covers and glued them in place.

The picture looking forward over the front fender and hood has a weird reflection. In reality the color match is almost perfect. With the naked eye I can see an ever so slight difference but it's super close, say, 98% to 99%. That said, I am 100% satisfied with the paintwork.

The car went back together without complaint. All new pieces bolted together without any hassle or forcing. I’m really happy with how it turned out.

With it now being salvage title, I need to take it in for a one time inspection before I can re-register it. The DMV or CHP do that. No charge I think. Not sure which one I will go to, but I'll have to mount a temporary front plate.

You game for a side gig?

Harder to find that standard of care from a typical body shop nowadays, which are like assembly lines. Or worse, those that acknowledge they are, and just sling out the jobs for rental car companies and insurance companies at pre-negotiated rates.

What quality shops that do remain, haven't been bought out by the likes of Caliber, and can sustain their businesses without referral work are becoming rare.

Sorry, I just noticed this. I'm a big fan of Dr. Color Chip. I use it for years on all our cars. It takes some finesse to make small chips virtually disappear, but it can be done.

Thanks. I like working on cars and after 12+ years of owning the E90 I know my way around it and how to work on it. Doing all this mechanical work was not difficult, it just takes time to do it right.

I'm super stoked how well it went back together. Even the holes on the new plastic, semi-rigid inner fender liners lined up EXACTLY to the holes on the front bumper and undertray. Not a single part needed to be forced or bent into position.

Salvage title process update:

I got the VIN check a few days ago at the California DMV. Next is a thorough inspection at a state certified repair facility. Car will go up on a lift and wheels taken off for thorough undercarriage inspection. Will be connected to OBD to check for any codes and such. Even the headlight aim is checked. They even take the car out for a test drive, including what they called a "full blown panic stop". Their words. Ugh. I don't like it but I have no choice. Thankfully this is a one time inspection. The MINIMUM charge for the inspection is $440.

Was up in @JeffKeryk neck of the woods today. I returned home via Hwy 25 to Hwy 198. One of my favorite roads. A few pics of the E90 enjoying itself on a beautiful road.
