Never had a garage or even a car port

No fun No garage at home. Born middle of last century. Have a Shop garage but that is usually full of hotrod projects and an OC is not Lift or cement floor

I just suck it up.

It's not too bad once you get into it; I have a little "go bag" assembled and always ready on the front porch with tools just for OC on wife's and my car.

Drain pan and 5 gal waste oil jugs are outside - really, just inside a side access door under the enclosed farmers porch.

I do bring the floor jack back in during the winter, Don't want to run over that with the snow blower!

I have a 6 foot run of TYVEK to lay over any the ice and snow or sand and an old chair cushion for my sore knees.

I also did the OC on my mini SUV in late October when it was over 50 out, lol :) That oil stays until late March or April of 2025.

Some people are pack rats and refuse to get rid of crap they really don’t need.

My older brother likes to hoard stuff that is trash and fills up his house and garage.

Very sad and pathetic…..
Right after I landed overseas - BiL caught his stuffed garage on fire - it had an unfinished garage apartment upstairs - also stuffed …
Tough way to finally clean it - fortunately a detached …
(house untouched) …

When I was young, I had a carport, but didn't have a garage. When it was cold, I dealt with the cold.

Now we have a garage that can fit most of our vehicles, my tool cabinets from my car repair days, and a 2-post lift, it's also heated. Some would call it a man cave, but often my wife is out there helping me. She is awesome.

I have a mostly clean two car garage at my house that I use for light maintenance but still usually do topside oil changes in the driveway on my VW as I can have it done in literally a few minutes.
For heavy duty stuff I have a 30 x30 garage at my BIL house that I built for him with a nice hydraulic lift and an engine hoist on a steel beam across the entire span of the garage. Man it was a job getting that beam in place lol. All of my major tools are at this garage but space is sometimes an issue here as he rebuilds totaled vehicles and sometimes gets backed up on getting them completed. But yes having space to work out of the heat and cold is nice and saves me a lot of time and money.

Cool!

Got it changed today. 37 degrees out. Been worse. Yes cement was cold and wet but it went well.

I like to change oil pretty much right at 5,000 mile intervals to keep it simple to remember. That often necessitates changing in cold/rougher weather.

Also a lot of people with two car garages fill one side with junk.
When we bought our house it came with a lovely two story carriage house that we had to tear down due to insect damage. Wife said we could build a new garage but she required one space for her car no matter what. Didn’t build as large as I would have liked but overall I’m happy.

So I've got a run-of-the mill 2-car garage, and the agreement when we built it was my wife got a bay and I got one. She only uses hers in the winter to keep the frost off, in the summer it's full of bikes, projects, etc.

I'm giving her a "big present" this year and had to segregate my bay, so I got some paint drop cloths from Lowes and basically walled off a Covid ward, LOL:

For the next 2.5 weeks now all my car repairs are done in the weather. Not too much really, mostly snow tire changeovers.

She's putting up with my Christo wrap because it looks ambitious, which is out of character for me. 😁

Thinking about it, I never had my own garage until I bought a house with a garage when I was 28, but got going on my mechanics hobby right after that and always had a garage since. I think a person needs to have a commitment to themselves if they want to be a shade tree mechanic or not. It’s really hard to purse the hobby without the garage. The main thing is if you have stuff disassembled you don’t want it rained on, and you also want some security. If I need to down size in retirement I hope I still have a two car garage. I have an older friend who passed away at 75 and he wrenched to his last day in his huge shop.

Even with my tool addiction I'd wager I've broken even over the years (worst case) or still saved money (best case) with my shop and tools. The idea of taking my vehicles anywhere for anything other than new tires and windshield replacement is completely foreign to me.

Not having a decent garage with a lift would be like returning to no washer and dryer and having to go to the laundromat -- never wanna go back

I have a garage but you cant work on cars in it.. (well maybe a subcompact car or garden tractor)

I'm fortunate to have a two and half car garage with some nice workbench space and room for the two sedans, shelf and counter space and all of the OPE. I still wish I had a three-car garage, or less stuff.
