I just received a (what is supposed to be) a geniune Honda A01 oil filter for my civic that I bought from eBay. The filter itself has "Made in China" on the canister, but the shrink wrap says made in USA. The seller was in the U.S., but it came from Puerto Rico that the listing didn't specify. I'm not too familiar with the A01, but can I get some input? Is it a genuine Honda part? Don't know if there are fakes in the filter world or not... Apologies for poor pic quality.

Assembled in China ... made in USA ... sold in the USA, but shipped out of Puerto Rico. Wow, talk about convoluted.

Use a FRAM Ultra XG7317 ... same size as the PL14610. $9 at Walmart and good for 15K OCIs.

Looks like a fake to me. My Honda A-01's (I have 2 in front of me) read "Assembled in USA." Mine also came with a crush washer on top inside the wrapper...

At $7.25 for that filter on that eBay listing, are they that much more expensive at the dealership? If I were to buy the OEM filters on eBay, I'd try to purchase from a Honda-only dealership that sells on eBay; I'm sure they're on there. However, with an array of filters at or around [and well below] that $7.25 price, I'd be hesitant to go with the Honda 15400-PLM-A02 filter; for example, the Napa Platinum 41356 filter can be had for $7.54 right now. The Gold 1356 filter can be had for $5.69, both filters of which I would feel confident in using over the OEM Honda filter. The Purolator PureOne PL14610 is $5.99 on Amazon, and as mentioned above, can be had for less locally when on sale.

At the Honda dealership (which is where I got mine) were $5.50. I usually use the Napa Platinum and have a few here but the part # you mentioned is for the "old" filter. The part on my platinums are 47356.

When??

I know that is sorta pricy for a Honda filter, I just like to try different filters out. P1 kinda scares me a little, but I may use another eventually. And yes I should've bought one from the Honda dealer.

Most likely manufactured by Mann and Bosch's Chinese subsidiary. Notice that it reads Filtech inc. at the bottom. Remember that Bosch Premiums use Filtech synthetic blend media. Mann and Bosch's partner in S. Korea, Dongwoo make the amazing Hyundai/Kia filter that sells at the same price point.
Bet it is the same factory that turns out Driveworks for Advance Auto. Another solid filter.

As said "sorta pricey" and I wouldn't pay $7.25 for it. Even if it's truly an A-01 and not a Chinese knock off, it's still likely not very efficient as the no endcap type tend to be. But price aside, China label combined with ebay, that would chase me off. Just me.

Understand your P1 trepidation, read your last thread, but don't think I'd throw the baby out with the bath water either.

Fwiw, my local Napa dealer is have a 40% off sale on Platinum filters which only run $7.50 regularly which is not bad. I think I will prefer them to the Napa Gold in this size because it has dome end bypass meaning significantly more media area. Going to grab a couple 47356 Platinums for Honda. Just something to consider for the future.

And as mentioned, for ~$9 the Fram Ultra is readily available and specs out well.

This looks like a filter meant for use in Asia. Probably not fake. US-market filters say "Assembled in USA" on them, or at least they did until very recently.

I'm not too sure about the Filtech diamond logo on the bottom: The US examples I've seen don't have little circles, but instead have what resemble punch-marks, and the diamond only has a single line.

US-market Filtechs also have a crimp flange that stands totally proud of the body of the filter. This one looks slightly recessed, but that may be just image distortion caused by the the shrink-wrap. The shrink looks wrong. You don't usually see it where the seam is split like that; that's a poor-quality shrink job; and shrink tunnels are everywhere.

As for the red Honda sticker, it's impossible to tell if it actually says "Made in USA" on it. Are you sure it doesn't say "Assembled in USA"? Either way, there's some kind of mismatch, which is troubling unless the filter was meant for some part of Asia where point-of-origin labeling isn't important and the factory simply used whatever stickers they had lying around. Is the sticker actually orange, or is it definitely red with no orange tint? How crisp is the printing? It should be sharp as a knife, with every detail in the text clearly visible. Check the text at the bottom of the red sticker, specifically the Spanish word "removida" and the French word above it, "enleve". The right-hand edges of the final "e" in "enleve" and the "D" in "removida" ought to be in perfect vertical alignment.

I thought the A02's were made by Fram. That doesn't look like a Fram to me. There was a recent thread on here comparing the two (A01 and A02) I'll see if I can find it.

I agree, the base plate doesn't look quite right to me either although it is hard to tell for sure with the wrap on.

It is definitely not an A02.

BTW, the crush rings don't come in the shrink wrap but it is very common for the parts counter to slide on in at the seam in the shrink.

I don't think I would use that one.

Several people need to read the question, the man did NOT ask what you would use instead, or if you would pay Hondas asking price.

I can't find it. There were side by side pics and everything, the A02 was clearly a Fram. Anybody remember the name of the thread?
