Need an oil recommendation - lost an engine using VR1

I would be more worried about something getting missed cleaning the engine after machining blocking the oil ports to the back end of the crank. leading to bearing failure.
also if clearances were checked with plastiguage instead of dial bore gauge you wouldn't know if crank was ground out of round or if rods were out of round, both of which could cause immediate failure.

That’s quite a story.

I guess the bottom line is Valvoline doesn’t know what they are doing but fortunately Driven does.

Next time perhaps you should not “wing” it. That appears to be the biggest failure.

There are most definitely times that viscosity is king !!
