Need Advice on oil weight with High Performance Engine

Again, this is not my favorite track engine. You're now touching on one reason why, as the OP likewise discovered for himself.
 
67GTCoupe has already moved to the Chevy rod journal diameter, which is common with the modified SBF. The 3" Windsor mains are the same as the 460CID. Aftermarket and race blocks use the Cleveland mains at 2.749" for the longer strokes, and the 302 mains at 2.249" for the shorter strokes.

SBF blocks are available in iron or aluminum; deck heights of 8.2", 8.7", 9.2", and 9.5"; 302 or Cleveland mains; and 4.000" and 4.125" bores. You can make any engine you need to be competitive in any series against the Chevys.

Smokey Yunick's rule was 10psi for every 1000 rpm. He claiimed it can be just as deadly to have too much pressure at low idle as to not have enough at high rpm.

look into using a straight 30 or 40wt
 
OK:


I am running a Mellings 10833 HV race pump.

I have the large 351w journals.....3.00" mains, 2.110" rods...so very high bearing speeds.hence the large clearences.

I am getting:

Cold idle.........60psi

Hot idle...........30psi

Hot RPM.............MAX 45psi!!!!

So, is the max of 45psi at 4500rpm, telling me it wants heavier oil??????

EDIT:

This engine produces over 500hp at the flywheel, so no it is not a typical E-150 van motor.
