NAPA GOLD 1516 Cut Open

Majority Napa Gold/(Wix labeled) have a metal coil spring thread end "bypass", just not as an integral part of the endcap as in OP topic filter, also older M1. The stamped flat/leaf spring is the compression spring, Napa Gold/Wix labeled use a coil compression spring (not as bypass). That is un-observable without filter dissection. Linked is a Wix made Napa Gold same application, granted it's an older thread but it is a Wix made Napa Gold 1516. Wix thread end coil spring bypass can be seen middle in middle of first pic

Sayjac, I went to the link you posted and my filter I cut open looks exactly like that filter. The only difference is the spring.
Below is a link to member DuckRyder's C&P of a M1-209 filter. It looks very similar to my C&P.
I'm very confused about the filter that came off of my engine. Is it possible that someone switched the oil filter in my NG-1516 box? 🤷‍♂️

^^ It's possible there was a switch. Other possibility, Napa changed suppliers/manufacturers for oil filters. As noted previously I consider that a very unlikely possibility. Looks identical equivalent application M1-109 when they were made by Champ Labs. No pic of flat/leaf compression spring pictured in DR's M1-109 link, but I'd bet money it's identical to topic filter too.

I just took a peek down my newer Wix 51516 and indeed it does appear to have a coil spring at the base of the filter. Your picture shows it too if you look closely. I don't think it's the stamped leaf part that is the spring relief mechanism? Not entirely sure how it works just by looking at the picture.
The dome end leaf spring can be seen in the first photo. It keeps the guts inside the can tight. Yes, the coil spring is part of the base end bypass valve on this filter.

Wasn't the filter model number on the can somewhere ? You don't show a photo of the can outside.

It was my impression nobb was referencing 'his' Wix 51516, not topic filter. And coil spring he was referencing part of "Wix" thread end bypass.

Yeah, the coil spring he's seeing has to be like BOFs shown in the base end bypass. Can't see what kind of spring is in the dome end without cutting it open, which sounds like nobb didn't do ... he just looked down the center tube it seems.

^^^ Yes. And why I posted directly after his post that Wix thread end uses a visible coil spring as part of bypass. But unlike topic, not integral to endcap.

^^^ Not to my knowledge, and only if Napa decided to change suppliers to Champ Labs. Not a leap I'm willing to make based on one anecdote with no label on filter. And M1 no longer made by Champ Labs, topic filter is Champ Labs M1 construction.

Be nice to see the date code on the dome end.

Last year I put a 1522 on my daughter’s Trailblazer. I was surprised to see it was made in Mexico and had slots in the center tubes. I just purchased another 1522 and it’s made in USA and has holes in the center tube. It does seem like NAPA may be using more than 1 supplier.

Yes I'm just reporting what I saw through visual inspection only of two Wix branded filters. The 51516 appears to match the OP in that there's a stamped leaf at the end and the 51334 has a coil relief valve at the end. Strange that they are both Wix but designed different. That's why I don't think this is a Napa vs Wix thing.

^^^Confusing, to me. Without a filter dissection (cut open), impossible to definitively say what type of compression spring a filter uses. 'Visual inspection' down outlet hole will provide bypass location (if one spec'd) and centertube type info, not compression spring type. So seeing a "stamped leaf' compression spring vs Wix/Napa Gold typical coil compression spring not doable otherwise.

I do note now that a 'not topic' 5/1334 was brought into the discussion. That NG/WIx Labeled application has been discussed here often. That application used on Hy/Kia, M&H (Wix parent) decided to combine with it's Hy/Kia Korea OF production and as seen in multple dissections here 'it' does use a leaf spring. Again though that's not topic filter made by Champ Labs. Asa an aside, based on comments here most seem pleased with newer 5/1334.

Another possibility on topic filter, this specific topic "NG" (not Wix labeled 51516) application, subbed to Champ Labs. Also very unlikely I'd think, but can't rule it out based on topic filter.

I've seen Napa Gold/Wix labeled 'spin on' automotive application filters made in Mexico. The NG1334 made there at one point, c&p'd one. I've seen Napa Gold/Wix center tube with holes. I've seen NG/Wix labeled using louvers, especially since M&H acquisition. Used both and all made by Wix. I've never seen a Napa Gold spin on filter made by Champ Labs before, either on this subforum or in real life.

Local Napa now having semi annual Gold sale, while I won't purchase plan to ask to see topic NG1516.

The anti-drain valve looks different from Wix/NAPA Gold as everyone I ever saw had "Parker" and a part # molded into one side of it..

This was on my 2007 F150, 4.2 V6, 160K miles.
Drained Amsoil SS 5W30 3.5K miles.
M1-209 went back on with Havoline Pro-DS 5W30.

The reason I dumped the Amsoil SS so soon was because my engine was starting to consume oil. I made a post about it in the Passenger oil forum. My son had the same oil in his 04 5.4 3V engine and it too was consuming oil.
I wonder why certain oils do this in engines?
