My Costco running low on 0W-20

Not sure if you’re aware of the serious engine failures GM is having with 0w20.
Their solution if applicable is to switch to 5w30.
That should tell you something about the lubricating quality’s of thin oils.

If you're talking about the truck engines, that was a manufacturing defect, not from running 0w20.

I was at two different Wally World stores in SE Michigan this week and the shelves were full of 0W-20. Several brands were on sale. Why would they offer a sale if supplies are running out?
Good question. My Costco here in Georgetown, TX has plenty of 0W-20, along with 5W-30 and 15W-40. The 0W-20 was in the usual 2 X 5qt packs for $35.99. Hasn't been on sale for at least a year, maybe longer. They had plenty. I'll keep an eye on it because I'm there every Friday for a hotdog lunch with my bride of 58 years! Oh, and I'd never seen a 5W-20 in a Costco until last summer in Albuquerque on vacation. It was a Friday so, yes, we had hotdogs......

Why does it have to be Friday to have a Costco hot dog? I just had one this Monday morning and at 10am no less 🤓

Hmmm, let me think. Other days there are "obligations." Then, it kicks off our weekend, We eat first, then I go for a basket, cruise past the oil to check the status ($, qty on shelves) and we meet in the clothing department. Then we check our list, if there is one, finish shopping and gas up the car. Usually 1/2 tank, more or less. With both of us in our 80s, we find that routines of all sort are necessary for staying on track!
Regarding your fine country of Canada. Our car was made there (RX350) and our 50th anniversary was spent in and around Banff. The people were super nice and the exchange rate was delightful...... Have toured the Kentucky Toyota plant but my bucket list still shows the Cambridge plant that made our car......

I did a little calculation today. At my current rate of usage I have enough oil for seven years worth of oil changes for my passenger cars. I’m a little light on 15w-40 for my tractor so I’m going to pick up a couple of the $24 boxes of Delo from Auto Zone.

Ours is similar but with about 3x as much 0W20. Looks like its a little early to panic. Most folks are just looking for a new excuse to not service their vehicles, we here are an anomaly.

Yes, it's too early to panic. However, there are some who treat oil as the new toilet paper and panic buy. That is pure greed. Others would like to buy oil when they need it.

People are hording water, shelf stable foods and apparently motor oil.
(Aka oil isn’t the only thing I’ve seen out of stock weeks at a time the last 3 months)

There is a legitimate shortage of “fresh produce “ spreading that is assumed to be heading to acute in 2-3 months.

Due to the record droughts predicted across the bread basket during peak growing season it’s expected we will have so called staple food shortages in 6 months.

My area which is considered moderately wet for this year still has extremely dry soil conditions and is looking at 3-5 weeks of cloud free, hot, dry , sunny conditions.
This will affect potatoes, sweet corn, oats, soy, ginseng , and indirectly dairy and pork.

Cranberries benefit from flooding without soil saturation and may be ok but it will depend on what happens late in the year.
