Took my Dakota in for some PM and replacement of my "Rice Krispie" ball-joints (they crackle and pop and eventually snap

). I left the dealership and the engine sounds kind of loud, almost like I needed a new muffler, only I know the dealer would have suggested one if that was the case since they're really good about suggesting extra work.

Remembering the time I took it in for an oil change and they left the filler-cap off, I pulled over to check under the hood. The entire intake snorkel, from the air box to the throttle body was off. Back to the dealer where I got profuse apologies and the mechanic finished the job.

I didn't notice it at the time, but there was also a nice socket under the hood which the service writer spotted when I showed him the problem (lucky for the mechanic that I didn't notice it or he'd have been buying a new one).

Mistakes happen and nothing major was involved here unless the mechanic forgot to put something in the suspension back together, but given that this is the second time I've been allowed to drive off without the truck being put completely back together, I have to wonder how this "5-Star" designation is awarded.

"5-Star" means that what happened to you only happens on average to 5 out of 10 customers. If it happens more than 50% of the time, the dealer loses the 5-Star rating.

I had a Jeep Comanche pickup worked on by a 5 star Dodge/Jeep dealer. They forgot to tighten up the positive battery cable after removing it. Two days later, it wouldn't start and left my sister stranded with an infant, in the dead of winter.

Of course, they denied it all. It wasn't them, it wasn't their fault. Never went back, and never bought another vehicle from them.

By the way... this was about the time that this dealer sold YUGO's as well...

This sounds familiar. Back in the 80s my dad bought an 84 or 85 Cherokee (whatever the first year was for small Cherokees). On one occasion, I believe during a water pump replacement, the dealer mechanic left a bunch of tools under the hood. As the Jeep was pulled out of the garage it left a trail of tools behind it. I'm sure all of the service department customers liked seeing that. This dealer now has a 5-Star rating, but my dad won't set foot in the place.

With the intake air bypassing the airfilter you could have sucked a load of dirt into the engine. The offending "stealer" should replace the oil and oil filter for you. If they don't you should consider on doing it yourself as soon as possible so as not to circulate extremely dirty oil through your engine.

Sounds like Mancari's...

Close, but you have to go about 20 miles farther west on Ogden....

Any scoop on Dempsey's in Plano? It's out of my way, but if they can remember little things like putting my vehicle back together after they work on it, it may be worth the trip.

Good point. Timing being everything, this had to happen AFTER I changed the oil over Labor Day weekend....
