Hi, would appreciate some advice on if Motul 6100 SYNERGIE+ 10W40 is a good oil for Honda Prelude (4th gen) F20A4 engine, sohc non vtec, has about 190K miles on it? Oil change interval would be 3-3.5K miles.
90% city driving.
Oil filter - MANN W610/6.

Good oil, no problem if your climate is ok for a 10W grade, Dortmund I think will be ok.

Quick question, can't you get the 5W40 for pretty much the same price ? Or the Total Quartz Energy 9000 5W40 for cheaper ?

Thanks for the advice

I probably could get 5W40 Motul, or Tatal for cheaper, but would like to try Motul, guess I fell for their marketing...

And local mechanics recommend 10W40, as thicker oil will supposedly leak less in an old engine. My engine consumes some oil (one way or another). And this viscosity complies with user manual temperature recommendations.

Do you 10W40 might have some negative effect in my case?

Both 10W40 and 5W40 will have similar (40 weight) viscosity at operating temperature, the difference will be that 5W40 will probably have a better quality base, but since you don't do long oil change intervals, no problem.

Also the cold start abilities, that will depend on how cold it is in your area

10w oil passes maximum viscosity tests at -25*c and -30*c .

5w at -30*c and -35*c ...

0w at -35*c and -40*c ...

A 10w oil is just fine for most climates ...

You seem to like suspension marks!
Also should have quoted my full phrase, as a fellow Canadian sometimes there are better choices than 10Wxx, that's all I was implying.

I would choose Shell hx7 10w40....as I think that this is the most up to date oil in 10w40 viscosity (their XHVI behaves as grp. III) and its also cheap and easy to get...

Thanks for the advice, I actually have already bought Motul.

Initially I chose from these brands:

Liqui Moly/Meguin
Motul
Repsol
Shell
Valvoline
