Ken, looks like 20wt isn't a good oil for this engine. Almost all wear numbers are up from your seven other analysis'. Silicon is up as well. Perhaps it's artificially inflating the wear numbers.

Looking at it real fast it seems like a wash. Iron/copper is higher with the Motu but so is Si.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hard to compare by the different mileages, and without getting calc out...it sorta, maybe looks like your car prefers the slightly thicker oils....but lots of variables changing. That Si is maybe an additive.

WOW that oil is like a girl I once adored; Snuggle Barbie we'll call her.

Very compact and thin but extremely well "additized".

Looks like both 50wt. oils have the least wear. I suppose if your looking for extra mpg at the sacrifice for a little extra wear, maybe a 30wt. would be a good choice for the Camry. Toyota's seem to like M1, so M1 5w-30 might be a good oil to try.

I'd stay away from the 20wt. oils as wear seems to be elevated from your previous runs.

If you used 300v 5w-30 0r 5w-40 you might have a good UOA. But this UOA no too bad.2000 C/K truck GM service manual say you need thicker oil in summer time.(Recommended viscosity was 10w-30 no other viscosities are recommended in the service manual.)PS: This was in the service manual not the owners manual.

gotta like the Castrol 10w-50 in this engine, clearly working well in terms of wear protection. I think a good middle of the road oil would be the Castrol 0w-30 SLX, if you are concerned with fuel economy. But definitely the Castrol 10w-50 for engine protection, and no top end leaks.

Presently using RP5w20. I am a little apprehensive of using Motul 300v again cos of the oil leak, even though my oil leak has now stopped since tightening my valve cover. Im pretty much hooked on 20wts, I have 3 choices here:

RP5w20 = S$40
Fuchs 0w20 = S$76
Motul 0w20 = S126

Sad to hear that the 300V did not work for you. I was thinking of going from Agip Extra HTS 5w40 to Motul 300V 10w40.

Do you have any reviews on Mobil 1 Supersyn 5w50? My 156 usually consume 0.5L of oil per 5,000km. But with the Mobil 1 Supersyn 5w50, the engine consumed 0.5L in 2,000km!! Wondered if it has sheared so badly that my engine is consuming so much.

I drive hard, redline everyday (7,000 rpm). Recommended is 10w40 for normal driving and 10w60 for spirited driving.

Thanks

That sure is a lot of make up oil. I think the benchmark is 1qt per 1000miles allowable max. So you are still well below the benchmark. But it may not be oil going pass the rings. Check for oil leaks. Also check your PCV valve. Do a compression test.

Thanks. I have just top up with Agip 5w40 (yes, mixing the oil) and will monitor before I send it for a PCV value check + compression test.

Cheers

Wow. I didnt realise that the new 300V Double Ester range use Moly!! Their old formulations conatined none of it...

Anyways I dont think 300V is suited in this engine. Its a race oil after all..

I have tried two of motul's oils ,the old 300V 10W40 and the group 3 6100 10W40 and i am not satisfied with them.
The 300V was sluggish and the 6100 caused a PCV return hose oil leak which was cured with fuchs 5W30.
I don't intent to use any of their products in the future.
Bye bye motul..
