If a good dino will give you a 5K OCI, and a good synthetic gives 10K, then how do the above synthetic blends perform? Would a 7500 OCI be expected, or are they not the same as Mobil 7500 oil? In regards to 5W30, thanks!!
These are all very good oils for the money. And that may be the reason why the blends are even produced. Most people do not need synthetic and those that do have to cringe a bit at the prices. Most good dino like Havoline/Chevron, Superflo and Penz will do well in most applications and modern engines over OCIs that most people want and normal driving conditions dictate. If you insist on extended drain then synthetic is the way to go and one of the very few reasons for synthetics in the first place. (Perhaps an even better option is dino and LC20).
The semi or "blend" oils may be the wave of the future even though no one really knows how much of the "blend" is non-dino. As these oils become even more refined they should take a bunch of business away from both dino and synthetic users. I believe this will happen bcause they are relatively cheap compared to synthetics and nearly the same price as regular dino. Motorcraft is a great blend and sells for about $2 a quart. I bought Havoline dino the other day for $1.79 so there is not much difference. Both will do the job but in the years ahead I think the blends will improve to the point that they may even replace synthetics all together.
My last OCI was 5.5 months, and 6,100 miles with MC 10/30. However, I had a qt of MC 10/40 and used RL 10/40 as "top up" oil, and during the last 3000 miles or so, had half a btl of VSOT in it.
