HPL Premium Plus - Reasonable OCI?

You could also go with HPL's fantastic Euro oils. Those are more LSPI friendly and have a lower SA level. But you still get the good base oils.
I am currently using HPL Euro 5w-30. Did a 4k uoa, filter change and planning to do a 10k uoa in April 2025. The 4k uoa looked fine and the Toyota V6 is not a fuel diluter.

I just ran this about 7K in the wifes new 24 altima with a 2.5. It was in the car all winter, black and reeked of fuel. It even used a few ounces, which is unusual for this engine based off the other 2 cars i have that use none. I'm hoping it was a combination of still breaking in and lots of cold starts and idling. I refilled it with torco so we shall see. During spring, summer and fall I'd run this the whole OLM as long as it stays cleanish. I know they say that color means nothing, but I don't see it that way

I ran this HPL PP 6k in my 2023 Type R all winter. I don't do a lot of short trips or idling so I didn't really have the strong oder of fuel , but it was noticeably dark. I'm running another OCI (7k) currently and plan on doing a UOA just to get baseline.

I don't want to stretch it to the limit but would like to get my moneys worth out of the oil.

So you are spending money on the oil, filter(s), UOA reports, etc? My question would be what are your expectations so you don't have to think, "I ain't dun used it nuff!"

It seems like one investment on top of another, I have used HPL PP and Overkill 0w20 in my Honda for around 10,000 miles each, drained and moved on without worrying about nickel and diming myself, let alone adding to the base expense of simply purchasing the lube with one or more UOA reports.

My dad, may God grant him the Kingdom, during his life would complain about my buying one carton of eggs that was $1 more than another because the one I wanted was from a local farmer that pasture raised their chickens. Dad said I was wasting my money for no reason. Meanwhile my dad refused to leave the store without spending hundreds of dollars on the worst junk food that ruined his health and made him miserable, ultimately contributing to his premature passing. /Rant

I went a full year on mine using HPL Supercar 0w20, which ended up being 11,956 miles. Everything in the UOA came back great. Now it has HPL Supercar 0w30 in it and we’re going for 20k miles, though I will be changing the filter.

I am surprised my Premium Plus / No VII blend still hasn't gone black after about 2.5k of a planned 4k OCI.

First time user here in our Kia. I consider it a testament to a great HPL oil. I trust HPL to show me how clean the inside of my Kia 2.0 engine really is.

I'll monitor the dipstick oil looks again at 4k and maybe run the oil to 5k,should it not appear black and worn doing one of those paper towel tests. I'm not wasting any more money on UOAs, while doing these short OCIs. It's a waste of money.

So what is your guess on a reasonable OCI for the HPL Premium Plus?
As it is with so many questions it all boils down to the use case. Here are three from my stable that may shed some light on the matter.

2016 Honda Accord with 2.4 liter Earth Dreams engine. This engine is a known fuel diluter and it is driven a little over a mile each way to work and back but also sees an occasional 1200 mile extended weekend trip. It calls for 0w-20 but has 0w-30 HPL Premium Plus in the sump to counter the affects of fuel dilution. This vehicle will see a UOA at 5k miles.

2017 Toyota Prius V hybrid. This is a grocery getter that also sees frequent 30 mile days. Once or twice a year it will see road trips of 250 to 500 miles. The recommended OCI is 10k miles. It currently has 0w-20 HPL Premium Plus in the sump and will see a UOA at 10k miles.

2017 Ford C-Max Energi plug in hybrid. This is my daily driver but most of its local miles are in EV mode. It runs in ICE mode when the temperature is at or below freezing and it is also the preferred road trip vehicle. It sees about six >500 mile road trips per year. It currently has 0w-20 M1 EP in the sump nearing 16k miles. The recommended OCI is 20k miles. It will soon be getting 0w-20 HPL Premium Plus followed by a UOA at 15k miles.
