Motorcraft FL910s

They are high efficiency and high capacity rated by Fram, and show little to no problems in the C&Ps done here. They have fiber end caps, which will help seal the leaf spring, unlike seen on some leaf springs on metal end caps.

I have a Coyote 5.0 / FL500s oil change this weekend. I'll cut it open and post it here.

If it looks anything like the FL910s, I'll probably throw away the remaining filters.

A few here have shown otherwise finding filter glue in the oil pan. The pieces can and do go through the bypass valve.
The lucky pieces get to pan and freedom. The others are still trying to get out.

I remembered I just put the same filter on my truck. It was like $4 before. I guess I can take it off and put a Walmart on. I have the blue one also was cheap.
The 910 has metal end caps, as almost everyone here probably, maybe, could be, knows. The glue isn’t bonded well to the cap. I prefer the Boss using a different glue. Try those. Only about $15 now.

I have questions regarding the second pic in the OP. Did the endcap(s) fall off by themselves when cut open and the oval area is what you found? Or was that endcap attached, then pulled apart from the potting and the pic shows what was found?

Good observation.

The endcap fell off. My process was simply to cut open the cannister and dump out the contents.

Okay, thanks for the reply. And the serrated looking edge shown on the potting was what you saw after it fell off? Nothing in the endcap itself? I ask because normally when and endcap falls off, and the potting intact and smooth, the flat spring enough for it to not be a bypass issue. That aside, the material finding (potting?) in the media, not good. In the past, the 910S one of the better Motorcraft oil filters. As can be seen this forum, things can change in oil filter quality rather quickly.

No problem!

The first picture, the piece of (glue?) was trapped inside of the filter media. I simply put it on top of the end cap to make it easier to see for the photo.

The second photo, the "chips" off the plastic were caused by gently pressingly on the edge with my finger. Very brittle is the best description I can give that.

Mostly was interested in pic 2, endcap off and the potting visual. 'I' would say the potting itself being brittle not an unusual finding. As noted, as long as intact inside endcap, shouldn't be an issue in use. That said, all things considered understandable to not have confidence in 910S going forward. Thanks for clarification.

I have a bunch of these for the sienna. Would it be best to throw them out? I have been using Fram on the Mazda. Would a Fram be better for the Sienna? ****.

The Premium Guard/CARQUEST Premium is safest filter out there now!
They do look good, Stude, but I won't even consider a made in China filter.

Actually I did buy one last OCI spurred on by posts and c&p on these pages. A few days later I felt like a traitor. Went home, unscrewed the thing and tossed the vile lump.

Twiddling my thumbs hoping for improvement from Mann + Hummel.
It appears the Germans don't care - they are even selling us fake Beck's, some rot gut brewed in some toilet in Missouri.

Yeah, I am mad

I really like the Premium Guard filters for sure. I don't have a big issue running Made in China filters, but for those who do, which filters are currently best that are made in USA?

I couldn't recommend someone use the current FL910s in good conscience. That being said, the dealerships are installing thousands a day and no one is the wiser.

Buy seven or more sample of new FL-910 from various geo locations and cut them and inspect.

These are made by the hundreds of thousands. How many have been opened up over that past 3 years and what percent had loose potting glue? Anybody have data?

Hopefully my next car will have a cartridge loader and not a spin on. Then there will be no more "shrouded mystery in a can"

Come to think of it my next car might just have a self-igniting lithium ion battery - but at least no oil filter with loose glue!
