Motorcraft FL-500S C&P

Hey everyone! This is my first time doing a C&P. I used tin snips but I did not go down far enough and it took forever 😂.

This FL-500S was in service for 5k with Valvoline Maxlife SynBlend 5W20 in my 2013 Ford Explorer Base non-turbo. I have another FL500S, a purolator one, and a service champ that I will post later today.

This filter seems perfectly fine. NO tears!

Unfortunately I cannot remember. It should be the same oil and filter. That is what I generally run until recently. I used a Hastings in the 2014 and Federated oil.

I’ve used Motorcraft canister style filters in the past. I never owned a Ford that took the FL-820s. There is one thing that stands out about the Purolator and Motorcraft canister style filters. Where the end caps meet the media, there is a gap between the end cap and the filter media. On other filters the filter media is right up to the lip of the end cap. On other filters the lip of the end cap is a little taller. You can see that on WIX/NAPA Gold filters and FRAM Ultra filters.
