I finally got my hands on the motorcraft fl500s replacement. The fl2121. This is for the 5.0 coyote and 3.5 ecoboost among many other engines. It’s very light compared to other filters for these engines with its composite center tube and fiber end caps. It has lots of filter media measuring 48” x 3.5”. And that media is very strong especially when compared to a 500s which I always found to be weak and brittle. Very easy to tear. No issues with tearing here. I stretched it out and pulled… it wouldn’t break. Very impressed with these so far. I will be using one on my next change. But that won’t be for a while. I’ve sworn off motorcraft / purolator for a long time. Since about 2010. But with these I think I’ll be visiting the dealer more often.

Nice photos. Now it my eyes or is this plastic center tube? Thank You

Here’s a comparison side by side of the 500s and the 2121. 48” x 3.5” for the 2121 and 48” x 3” for the 500s.

Motorcraft also went from a base end bypass on the FL-500S to a dome end bypass on the replacement FL-2121-B12. Guess Ford isn't too concerned where the bypass valve is located now.
