What's next? Top fuel funny car engines in street cars? 300 HP is more than enough power for most people, and even that is too much for some...

"The company was careful to announce that the engine was for use in pre-1976 cars and off-road vehicles only, but I'm almost certain it'll find use in any number of technically illegal cars in states/counties with no smog regulations."

I can definitely build a 640 hp 496 for much less than 20,000 plus. Not as cool as a Hellephant but it will have to do.

The Hellephant would certainly be cheaper. From the top of the injector to the bottom of the pan, you're looking at approx. 100K for less than four seconds of pure driving pleasure. Of course then you need someone or a group of people that can maintain it for you. I'm available, but not cheap.

I was lucky enough to get in the pits and watch a crew rebuild one of these engines...that was impressive!

This line always bugs me. I ask the price of many things I can afford..

I'm running a bit more power in my Viper with forced induction. I also strengthened the TR6060 trans to cope. So far so good.

Well, as they used to say in the old MTV adds, too much is never enough.
I agree that 300 bhp is plenty, but there are those who want more and we should be glad that it's readily available in a variety of current models.
You can also bet your sweet bippy that there will be street cars built with Hellephant engines.

They're going to keep going on this "one upmans-ship" until big brother feels the need to step in and govern these things...They did it with the big crotch rockets in limiting their top speed...

That was because of the fear that some European countries would step in and legislate their performance potential. So some manufacturers voluntarily artificially limited the top speed of their bikes. It worked, and the Bureaucrats attention went to other nanny-state ideas.

It's easy enough to de-restrict restricted bikes...
