This is America and I fully support the Liberals' right to be wrong.

On the board where I am a Moderator, we are required to PM somebody if we move, delete, or edit a post, with the reason why so they know what they did wrong. Exception is when we are doing mass cleanups of old threads.

I was critical of censorship on this board twice in the past. All I said was that I generally didn't like the idea of censorship. I did not even refer to any particular incident. Both my posts were simpy deleted without the moderator even finding it necessary to come forward and to give an explanation. Instead he chose to hide silently in the dark. In my posts I had also mentioned that the internet was not democratic, and the moderator who chose to censor me, proved my point with his behind-my back action.

Looking at the General and Off-Topic board makes me realize that anything can be said here only as long as it fits ultra-conservative views and as long as it slams any remotely liberal views. That's why I have almost never posted on this particular board, and that's why I, out of principle, am not posting on the oil boards anymore either. I've lost a lot of respect for a bunch of people simply by reading some of their non-oil related opinions and views.

I'm sure this post will be deleted shortly, too, but I hope that at least a few people will get to see it.

Hey, I'm a Christian Libertarian that recently voted in the primary for a former Navy fast boat Captain.

How right wing is that!!!! NOT

This group is much more balanced and complex than any labels reveal.

I say it is Bobs board and he can allow anything he desires. I personally really appreciate the honest exchanges here.

If I get tired of a thread I just don't read it.

Back to analysis.....

If General and Off Topic isn't for politics, family, religion or just plain being silly or blowing steam at the end of the day what is it for?

If it is only for oil related topics then perhaps it should be retitled to something like 'Laundry Tips for Removing Oil' or 'Cotton-Too Rough For a Dipstick?'

We all are here because of Bob and we post at his pleasure but quite frankly, the topics and diaglogue have been passionate and reasonably civil. I think it was premature to lock the posts unless members stepped over that undefinable line.

I want to make a few points about this topic:

-Censorship

I challenge you to go to any other forum that does not ban you in a second or delete your comments that the mods do not like. It's not going to happen. This is the BEST forum on the internet, and personally, I feel that if you are not happy, you need to go hang out somewhere else.

-The same guys that usually seem to whine on this site are whining

-The guys that complain all the time are not site sponsors

-You guys have NO idea what we go through as mods/admins, so sling your opinions around all you want. We spend alot of time making sure this board runs smooth, and get NO pay, no incentives, no commission, nothing. You don't see the mod alerts, emails, complaints, whining, hostility, etc. that we do. So before you judge us, put yourself in our shoes.

-For all of you guys that like to bash us or our actions, there are tenfold the number of members that appreciate the site and what we do.

Thanks to all of you that backed us up on this post, Joe

I tend to think that all of us, even if we've never seen each other, somewhat 'know' each other sort of like the aquaintances we have at work, ones we talk to, but never go to their house for Friday night BBQ. Yes, this is an oil topic board, but it does have a forum for 'off topic' stuff. To me, its a place to 'get to know' people without even having to post! If I see a topic I don't like, or sounds uninteresting, I JUST DON'T READ IT! Not a big problem to me. I do not agree with everyones opinions, as there are many who probably don't agree with mine, but the off topic forum is just that: a forum for topics other than the main course of the board. If there are political forums, fine. I just feel that if your going to 'ban' a particular subject, might as well 'ban' the whole off topic forum. As long as the forum rules are not being broken, wahts the problem with a political topic FOR THOSE WHO ARE INTERESTED in them? Off Topics forums help us all get to 'know' each other better. Lets use that to our advantage.

I don't know what sex or religion has to do with anything contoversial. I don't see why anyone would be interested in critiquing anyone else on that basis. Someone else's sex life and spiritual life is something so personal that it's kind of boring.

Politics, on the other hand, affects us all. The guys on this board with whom I may disagree, like TC, tweeker43, or needtoknow seem to care a lot about their positions. It's important that people care, apathy is the biggest enemy.

In addition to their passion, I understand where they are coming from. Some is anti-administration, some is a distrust of government. There should always be a healthy distrust of government and both political parties.

I think a big problem is looking to government to solve society's problems. I haven't seen the government have much success there.

I think healthy debate is a good thing, whether it be politcs, religion, science, or whathave you. It also allows you to fully see the other guy's side of things and where he's coming from.

Gary Allen is correct, it is only a IMB. If it is your entire life, then, I think you have serious issues.

BITOG is both educational and controversial with all walks of life attending the church (can I say that?) of oil truth. Now please pass the plate with the Majic Elixir!

i just can't comprehend the issue here. This is the general forum, and I enjoy coming here to read everybodys' opinion on something other than oil at times. I don't find it to be a "extreme right wing gabfest", nor do I find it to be filled with any other extremist opinions. If you don't want to read someones post containing an opinionated point of view, then don't. It's not difficult. IMHO this is one of the three best automotive based forums on the internet, and I enjoy hearing the opinions of individuals who I share interests with. Get over it, people have their opinions, and they should be allowed to express them in the general forum. If you don't agree with them then just remember that you can post your opinions as well.
