Model 3 Uber in winter.

The 3rd row in the Model Y is an absolute joke. The 3rd row in an RX450h is nearly as bad.
+1

They dont make a 3 row rx450h. I think you meant 4th gen rx450hL, which was still a joke, but at least it was made in japan only.

The TX on the other hand is heaven back there.

I had a 2016 Prius. It had a partial solar roof. It had a system you could switch on/off with a dash button to ventilate the car if the temp went above 85 degrees using the solar, no drain on the battery. It was really nice. I had window visors and would leave the windows down an inch or so and the ventilation on. Come out from eating or whatever into 95 degree Texas heat and get into my 95 degree car. Not into the 130-140 degree car like all the others parked around me. I should have kept it just for that.

I don't understand how the Model Y is 3 row in the first place. It's not a big vehicle.
Kinda funny; one of my neighbors (a really rich one) bought the perfect Model Y; long range, std wheels, base color. Except it has the 3rd row option. He has 2 small kids and his parents visit often. I am pretty flexible but probably couldn't put a bag of groceries in there. I wouldn't even wanna try. If I were in his situation, I wouldn't own this car.

Now the guy across the street has a MBZ AMG Twin Turbo GT sports car; freaking unreal. Love the sound. His wife has a Model Y Performance. Dunno which one is faster. Their kid fits in both.

I have never understood the glass roof thing. I don't like sunroofs and I don't like the idea of a glass roof. A proper solid roof wins in every way for me personally. As an option fine but as the only option, meh. It wouldn't be a dealbreaker it's just disappointing.

I'm probably getting a Bolt this week then saving up for Sierra EV in a few years. Hope the Sierra EV has a normal roof.
I’d much rather have solar up there. 8 hours at 200w x 2 isn’t enough to get you more than a few miles in the best conditions, but it could run a small amount of hvac/air exchange and have the cabin ready.

I like an old fashioned 2X 3 tilt/open sunroof I can completely close with one hand and no motor on the shade.
The whole glass roof does'nt work for me because heat.
It's hot longer than cold where Im at and the sun absolutely annihilates everything.

If I had a car with a full glass roof it'd be covered most of the time.
Just out of curiosity, how would you cover the glass roof?

Is there one available for a glass roof, and especially a glass-roofed Tesla? How is it secured?
Yep, I think Tesla themselves offer one as accessory as well but there’s a number of aftermarket options. It has clips that attach to the trim on the side of the roof. I thought of getting one, but I just put darker tint on the glass when I did the other windows.

I rented one and although it was a fun experience, would not want to own one.

For ride share service, my assumption is they're likely supercharging these during the day rather than waiting at home. It's actually not that much cheaper doing so than filling up a gas vehicle to do the same mileage. The higher insurance and repair costs also likely makes these worse to own economically as Hertz has discovered.

The glass roof looks cool but terrible for retaining heat. The biggest annoyance is the amount of wind and road noise that comes through that glass. In general there's an absurd amount of road noise that comes through on the M3. At speed I would say the average Camry is far more tolerable on road noise.

On the solar roof idea, it would add some usefulness in terms of being able to run some basic HVAC or entertainment systems while parked but from the area you're probably not getting much more than 200W from that (as per the Prius). So even after a day of charging it wouldn't make much of a dent in topping up the range. To give an example, running Sentry mode on the Tesla consumes about 300W.

About 1 in 5 of my airport Limos will be a Tesla - don’t like the glass roof during hot summers either …
Recently had an XT6 and that closed as they should …
We moved on past sunroofs long ago - other than the proper iteration that the Jeep has 😎

Not much is going to fit in the 3rd of a Y,.... pint of Jim Beam, deck of cards.

My El Jefe has 3 twin turbo v12 benzes 2 AMG' I can tell you which is faster - hands down the benz.
After 70-80 it just walks away pulling like a freight train still clawing for traction. He's deathly afraid of shutting off the traction control and says he never will. I've yet to feel it run out of wind even at 150 - it steps forward with almost unbelievable authority.
So far the only things Ive been in that given any of the 3MB's a real run was a ZR1.

Now which is quicker - so far an S, 3 performance, and an X will squirt past it till 70 or so then they get reeled back in.
It pulls a Y performance everywhere. Around town and catching the benz flat footed the little electrics are formidable opponents.

I would do that as a minimum, in case the roof shatters. Just to keep the pieces together....

I would recommend a high mileage ICE vehicle or hybrid in Texas with the cheap gas, having had formerly driven for Uber a while back.

Yeah they need a Grandpa/ Livery edition Tesla with steel wheels, a small 5-inch screen for the legally required backup camera, and "normal" roof. You'll see Tesla taxis with instructions near the oddball door handles so unfamiliar riders can figure them out.
That's a Tesla I would buy! I need a car, not a spaceship

This happened local. Opened my eyes to glass roofs on cars. No thanks!

It wasn't the "tire". The bearings failed and it was the entire hub!

150? On 280 above Page Mill perhaps? Have mercy. I rarely see 90 nowadays and that's when it gets away from me a little.
