Mobil1 has updated their website. Reg M1 now good for up to 10K miles (in print) / 30% PAO (5W-20).

< means "less than" So 20.<30 means the concentration is at least 20% but less than 30%. So 5w20 has at least 20% PAO. Stating it has 30% is very misleading. Ed

Where is that info found ?
Looking for poa of 5w 30 Hm and extended hm

Newbee question.. why would the 5w30 used much less PAO then the 5w20 ??? The 10W30 has even less.. Thanks all!

Because it doesn't need it to meet their goals. 10W-30 uses 5% Max PAO and 10% Max GTL. Likely just enough to offset the carrier oil. I've often wondered at exactly what gains they see in testing that warrant those small amounts.

5W-30 needs more PAO and/or more Viscosity Modifiers to meet the Viscosity Grade and Winter Grade requirements.

5W-20 can achieve it with less PAO and/or Viscosity Modifiers.

M1 has in-house standards they want the oil to meet. Meeting it with 5W-30 requires more expensive base.

So, theoretically. For my application in Kia GDI, will I be better with 5w20 and 20-30% PAO or 5w30 with 10% (or whatever the number is, but it's less)
I know it's a vague question, and I'm splitting hairs here. That's why I'm saying "theoretically"
Still can't understand if more PAO = better

So you’re new here? You didn’t even introduce yourself or anything. Did you have a different user name before?

I don't need to, but, yeah I'm new here. What does that have to do with PAO. Do you know?

I do not even know what PAO is.

Oh heavens just asking, no need to get defensive. Reading your posts lately you just sound really familiar that’s all.
? is PAO used to supplement base oil make up ,what is the rest base oil used group 1 ,group 11 or group 111 every PCMO is blended to a price point . EM is no exception

Well who would have thunk it,,,,, there are some 10,000 mile 1 year recommended oil change intervals for many vehicles. Lots of oils will work for the 10,000 mile oil change intervals . Just thinking about oil filter service life.

I would think the most of the name brand filters are designed for 10,000+ mi service life. I mean look at the common 10,000 mi Ford (Motorcraft) and 12,000 mi GM (AC Delco) drain intervals and all the Japaneses cars at 10,000 mi.

Filters with paper media go 30,000 mi in Class 8 Trucks so as long as the filter has enough capacity I don't see why they shouldn't go 10,000 mi in a Passenger Vehicle.

< means "less than" So 20.

I think most of us usually decipher 20-30% (of the fully formulated oil) as 30% of the Base. That would be 24% of the fully formulated oil if it's 20% Additives with carrier and leaves the blender some wiggle room for product variation.
