Hey guys... I was looking-over the specs of Mobil 5W20 and I kinda gave it some thought on how they are wording the spec sheet now..

Take a look at the header "Features and benefits".. The 1st sentence. "a blend of high performance sythentic base-stocks".. I called up their support line and asked them if their M1 is 100% PAO oil... No answer "We dont disclose".. So I am wondering if M1 is now using a blend of G-IV and G-III

What do you guys think??

Thank you for your inquiry,

Mobil1 motor oils are 100% synthetic!! They are comprised of only high performance synthetic baseoils, which is the PAO' (poly-alpha-olefins) and a carefully selected additive package that is tailored specifically for each viscosity.
This is the reply to my Email....

The ExxonMobil synthetic base oils are marketed thru the ExxonMobil Chemical group.

Here is a comment on the issue from the ExxonMobil Chemical Webpage :

Q - What percentage of synthetic engine oils is PAO and Group V base stocks (ester and other synthetics)?

A - Fully synthetic engine oils generally contain 70% to 80% PAO, 5% to 10 % Group V base stocks and the remaining portion are additives. However, some engine oil marketers have elected to use higher ratios.

Also note that XOM clearly defines a Grp III as a mineral oil produced from a refining process while the synthetic fluids are derived from a chemical process in a chemical plant.

Could you imagine working at XOM's consumer/help line: each day at the water-cooler

"So how many 100% synthetic questions so far this morning?"

"5 within the first hour - its a slow day today"

They should just send folks to BiTOG.

One month they have "energy conserving " on the API label

the next they don't

They are getting too secretive, in the interest of sales I believe.

I'm getting more than a bit peeved with them. They need to be more straight forward and "honest" about their product.
