While at Wal-Mart today I saw this oil on there clearance rack for $3.00 a quart.I have never seen an 0W20 oil before.I guess this one was not selling good enough to keep stocked. How long has 0W20 been around?

Mobil 1 0w-20 has been around for quite some time. It was actually released before M1 5w-20. If i had to guess, i'd say its been around for 3-4 years.

M1 0w-20 SL or SM formula? The SL is highly regarded. Even if it's the SM product, $3/qt is a an excellent price!

I just purchased 4qts of the M1 0w-20 SM formula from WM recently for a test of fuel economy once the hot weather passes.

I have not done research on this but would consider it for a 5W20 app' after warranty.

What is the base oil ? PAO or Visom GrpIII or other ?

Got an suspicions (&why) ?

Local WM here has 3 qts of M1 0w20 on the clearance shelf, but for $5/qt. A good oil, but not really a good deal when the 5qt jug of 5w20 is $19.xx

What does warranty have to do with anything? A 20 is a 20 is a 20.....

We use it in our Insight. It's definitely been around before the 5w-20. A couple years ago, they stopped producing the 0w in favor of 5w but then started making it again. Now, it looks like it's happening again. My local Walmart had the 0w-20 on clearance for $5 a quart

. I've been mixing the 0w with the 5w although it's not much of a big deal in Florida.

Junior,

I reread the manual. It does NOT say 0W20 is OK . I rarely have warranty so I usually do whatever I like. If I do need to use warranty, I don't want any counter claims that I used the wrong oil.

I would be willing to take the little risk (using 0W20) but I see downside being use of higher VII's unless it's higher quality base oil.

At three dollars a quart the price is finally in Motorcraft's neighborhood. You can consider M1 0w-20 to be about as good as Motorcraft 5w-20 which would make it a very good oil.

Blue Oval, scarf it up. Been using it in my 02 civic. Admittedly a subjective observation, but it gets better mileage than the m1 5w20 and the car seems to run better with it. I won't spend the extra cash for m1 5w20 but the 0w20 I'll snag in a heartbeat. Fwiw.

If it meets Ford's spec, it is the correct oil.

Well, obviously you have been misinformed. Mobil 1 0w20 will work just fine, and it will have similar numbers if you ever have a warranty claim where Ford has to UOA your oil. It will come back a 20w and you will NOT be denied because of your oil choice.

I have yet to see a warranty denied because of using a 30 wt instead of a 20 wt, really we are splitting hairs here. I think a bigger issue would be if the oil was changed every 3000 then weather it was a 5w20/5w30/10w30.

If you like this oil I suggest you read Patent Application Publication US2006/0211581 9/21/06.

It's EOM filing for use of PAO to get SAE 0W grades using GrpIII.

What is most interesting... although it does 'not exclude' the use on EOM's Visom base or Shell's XHVI GrpIII ...the patent seems to claim it's [0035-0037] preferred GrpIII include SK, Fortum, S-Oil, Petr-Canada, Chevron-Texaco, Motiva.

I think the original Mobil 1 from 20 plus years ago was 0W-20?
