I just brought 15 quarts of Mobil One 15W50 oil for $1.22 plus tax a quart, but all my vehicles use or recommend 5W30. Is it safe to use this oil in any of my vehicles?

Vehicles: Honde Civic EX 1996 90,000 miles
Toyota Camry LE 4cly 1995 165,000 miles
Mercury Villiger 2000 83,000 miles

Wow! I wish I could find M1 15w50 for that price!

If you are into mixing you could use it in the summer, about half a quart to a quart mixed with your 5w30 to thicken things up a bit. One quart in five would make your 5w30 borderline 10w40. Half a quart would be about right I think.

Thats a little thick to use year round. if anything I would use it in the Camry, but you should really thin it out with something, not sure what kind of fluid you could use to thin it out to something decent though.

Living in Philly the 15W is a little heavy in the winter, probably fine in the summer. Suggest, as mentioned earlier, mix with a mobil 1 5W for use in the winter

Rocky, I'd trade you some 30 weight Mobil 1 if you give me a good exchange rate. Just tell me what visc you want, I can even get 0w-30. Same deal goes for GC. I'm in Phila, Center City every week. You probally only want to use a quart of the 15w-50 at a time to thicken some 30 weight Mobil 1, and you'd have to stick with Mobil 1 for 15 changes, yikes.

Just cut the stuff with M1 5W-20/0W-20. A 50% mixture should make for a decent 30-weight with winter characteristics good enough for the PA winter.

Its a good oil and very commonly used by Porsche owners I know.

I assume they are clearing out stock for the new fancy squiggly bottle packages? I haven't seen those in Canada yet so I think the older (as in 6 months old) stock is probably similar to the M1 sold here in Canada. My understanding is that it has a pour point of -45 Celsius but that probably doesn't really capture that this is a thick oil. My docs indicate a cSt @ 100ºC of 17.4

For Northeastern climes I would want to cut it with something a little thinner like Mobil1 0w30 for winter use. I would use as is in the summer as long as your cars like it.

Too bad Targets don't seem to syncronize their clearances and sales, or I'd be out-the-door. I was thinking that I need some 15w-50 anyway.

Yes, it's safe to use in all your vehicles.
Like the others have said, I'd probably cut it some with a thinner M1. But really, it's going to depend on how comfortable you are with this vis & how frequently you change your oil.

For example, my next-door-neighbor leaves his Mitsubishi 3000GT parked outside year round (winters here routinely down to 0°F) & uses only Amsoil 20W-50. Also, if you're changing oil at fairly short intervals (5k mi or less), you could get away with adding maybe one qt of 0W-30 in the winter & no mixing the rest of the year. Mixing oils gives you something thinner than the average, so you don't need a lot of a light weight oil to thin out your mix.

I went to 2 targets today and bought 12 quarts.Strange thing is one store was priced at 1.18 and the other 1.22.Both only had 6 quarts,i think they are ttrying to limit the amount that can be bought at 1 time. I ask people at both stores and they told me they were out. I drop by tommorow and see if they restocked it.
