I had a 10% off coupon for any oil at pep boys. I thought I would stock up for my 2 older cars that my kids drive. 98 Honda CRV and 98 VW Jetta gas. My plan was to buy the best Dino I could find at the least price.

The Pennzoil Yel Bot 5w30 is $3.99, the Mobil5000 is $2.99. Well I've heard a lot of praise for the PYB but not the M5K. How come it's so cheap... is it bad oil, Will it goo 5,00 miles? I bought 10 qts for the next change on these cars.

Is it okay?

strangely enough, gas company branded oils (i.e. unocal, havoline, mobil, chevron, etc..) uusally seem to be slightly less expensive than the name branded oils like pennzoil, valvoline, quakerstate, etc..

to me, there's no real difference between all the conventional oils, they all perform as well as can be.
Honda uses Mobil conventional out of the factory (I believe they still do).
I got a great deal on mobil driveclean 5000, got 3 cases of it, I use it on my friend's 02 Altima, it's been in use since 49k (when nissan reluctantly replaced the motor). It's got 130k now, the oil holds up very well, and it isn't changed by 5000 either.

Interesting if Honda use a FF very similar to Mobil clean 5000 since their OLM regualarly thinks it will go up 8-10K miles.

Mobil 5000 is not really cheap. it's more like well priced as someone else mentioned. If you compare the 5 qt jugs at Walmart Mobil is about the price of PYB and more than QS which also is considered a good oil. Mobil 5000 is one of my favs along with PYB and QS.

Take it back. 10% off at PP is still more expensive than WM on Pennzoil.

Then after you buy the 5qt jug at WM for $11 (my WM has it for $11.50, still best price, and they have Pennzoil High Mileage for only $12.50), then submit the $10 rebate and get it almost for free.

If you can't return it to PP you can still submit the rebate at least.
