Mobil 1 use means a clean engine?

Most pictures I see of engines that have used Mobil 1 show very clean engines. There may be other oils with possibly lower wear if you use a UOA for your ideas on that, but I don't think most can dispute its ability to keep engines clean.

My 98 Cherokee 4.0L was extremely clean using M1 10w30 for many years. After 105k miles the inside of the valve cover looked perfectly new. No varnish or anything. And I beat the butt outta that truck.

Yep, that's one thing Mobil 1 has going for it. I've never heard of cleanliness issues with it.

Also, Red Line has very good detergent packages.

I waiting for Bill to chime in.

Used M-i 5w30 for ten years in a 97 Chevy fullsize pickup with 5.7 liter V-8. Under valve cover on driver's side where I could see with a penlight through oil filler tube it was always totally clean...no varnish or crud. Never burned any oil. SOld the truck at 100,000 miles.

A little crud won't hurt an engine. Only when crud builds up to clog the oil returns or the oil pickup screen is when there is big time trouble. Though a clean engine is a happy engine.

Steve S,
Sluge and or coking is very harmful to a modern engine with it's close tolorences and higher operating temps. As far as M1 keeping engines clean M1 does an outstanding job of doing that. My sons 91 Ford Ranger with 325,000 miles is still very clean through the oil fill hole. Some wear # may be minutely higher with M1 than some other oils, but internal engine cleanliness equals longer engine life. UOAs help with antifreeze detection, etc. but not much else.

Most of your good synthetics will keep the engine clean under moderate to somewhat extended drain intervals and high temperatures.

Mobil 1 handles high temp deposits extremely well as does Amsoil, PP, Redline....

Agreed. This is reinforced by the HTO-06 Spec.

We have a 1999 Subaru Forester purchased at around 70K miles, and during the past five years, we've put about another 70K miles on the odometer. I've used Mobil 1 (mostly 5W30 with some 15W50 red cap mixed in of late) with OCIs of 10-14K-miles/1 year. I'm currently running my last Mobil 1 fill at the moment. The car consumes 1 qt./6500 miles, which amounts to a couple of make-up quarts per OCI.

I'll be switching to a slightly thicker oil, GC 0W30, beginning with the next OCI.

I took these pictures when I adjusted the valves earlier this year at 137K miles.

What filter have you been using?
Does the filter run the whole interval or do you replace it?

10 - 14,000 mile / 1 year intervals are very impressive. One day I'm going to get the nerve up to try that myself.

Mobil 1 seems to be amazing oil. Maybe all those auto manufacturers know what they're talking about.

Maybe Mobil 1 is a bargain instead of being overpriced.

Are any of its formulas factually known to still be Group IV?
