Would you recommend Mobil 1 High Mileage 5w-20, or Mobil 1 Advanced (the fuel economy stuff) 0w-20? I plan to keep doing 10,000 mile OCIs.

Some people on BITOG seem to think that the Advanced isn't the best for long OCIs, but I do like the idea of the higher efficiency oil. Would my high-mileage car benefit from the HM add pack?

Thanks in advance!

Hey SpiffyTexan -

Have you considered trying Pennzoil Synthetics? We are currently running our Pennzoil Used Oil Analysis program, and we'd love for you to join us. Through the program, you'd receive two samples of Pennzoil Synthetics along with testing supplies from Blackstone Labs, so you're able to compare our motor oil you the competitive brand of motor oil you're currently using. Bought two jugs the hard way (Amazon) so, about to switch my Explorer eB to PUP - but if this site is going to be taken over by sales people I will go the other way.

Mobil 1 HM is only rated API SL for vehicles 2004 and older, your Focus might require API SM. That being said, I don't think the High Mileage would do any harm & that's what I would recommend you use.

The blower engine was a single cylinder Briggs of about 5hp.

Shannow was pointing out the "AFE" formulation hasn't been around for 39 years.

If you like the 0w20 weight but want to try a high mileage formulation, Valvoline offers a full synthetic with Maxlife additives in 0w20.

Yep, the original 5W20 was reputedly straight synthetic basestocks, no VII, and would have had the same HTHS as a light 30 (see Redline's offerings today)...and in those days it was advertised as a 10W40 replacement, which was clearly possible, as those oils were often useless, and had to have an HTHS minimum of 2.9 mandated for them in 1993.

Modern 20s are a different beast entirely.

Not saying that they aren't good...just not the same as the 39 year old M1.

Whatever you used prior - don't change a thing now!
Why change brands now when everything is perfect.

Sounds similar to the 14th post previous to this one!

Eww Castrol! PP HM is a great oil, but Mobil has a $15 rebate going on now for 5qts and a Mobil 1 filter--at $20 for the set after rebate, it's too good to pass up!

I don't see Walmart as a participating retailer as part of the rebate promotion.

I take it no rebates for Walmart M1 purchases?

Wal Mart is a participating retailer, it's just not on the Mobil list is all. My last two jugs of m1 I bought from Wal mart I got the rebate
