After my truck (Dodge ram 2009 Hemi 5.7L) sits for a full day upon start up I hear the lifters rattling away for a few seconds. I have a Mobil 1 Filter and PP 5w 20 for my oil. Are the pumps in these trucks a bit weak to bring up the pressure right away?

It may not be the filter. The new Challenger guys report a start-up rattle with their Hemi engines. One of them said that going to Amsoil 0W-20 fixed the noise.

Yes, this is the first time for this filter and oil set up. I have an 88 Porsche which sits for weeks at a time and it doesn't rattle if I go for over a month then it does which I think is normal. I figure it has to be the filter.

I had the same issue with my Mustang GT. Startup noise with M1 and K&N filters. Switched back to the Motorcraft filter, and no more noise. I believe there is a ADBV issue as I have read on numerous posts on this issue here. You would think with the cost of these filters that this issue would not come up so often. I wonder if the mfg's are aware of this as it comes up constantly

It's not an issue for them. It's an issue with customer complaints under warranty. Hence ..you spec to eliminate them.

If it was a real issue of merit, there would be specific prohibitions on using certain filters. The standard orange can would be on everyone's no-no list ..as would most of the nitrile ADBV filters.

They aren't, so we should reason that it's a thing with "audio-aesthetics" ..so to speak.

It was a real issue of merit to me. Very simple Motorcraft no noise. K&N...startup noise EVERY time. Mobil 1...60-70% of the time. For my application those filters did not meet my need...excellent filters probably, just not for me or my application.

I think the oil filters with the better filtering may take a bit longer for the oil pump to build up pressure. I am going to use Purolator classic and see if I have anymore issues with the lifter noise. I do 5,000 mile OCI anyway, the Purolator classic filter should be good for that long, right? By the way total mileage on the truck is 4,700.
