Mobil 1 "Advanced Clean" 5w-30

Most if not all synthetics advertise reduced deposits.

Some advertise cleaning engine sludge/deposits.

Few advertise reduced piston deposits.

One advertises cleaning existing piston deposits to factory clean.

Valvoline claims it’s cleaning piston deposits with an additive. They’ve been very tight lipped. It will be interesting to see Mobil’s approach.
If it is an additive, where did it come from? Mobil, along with Shell, owns Infineum. You would think Mobil should be aware of anything new in the marketplace or being developed. Does Valvoline source their additive packages through Infineum or now that they are under the control of Aramco, do they have access to additives from other sources? I also remember reading here that Valvoline kind of discovered this cleaning ability by chance.

Maybe just maybe Mobil had what Valvoline had, but Valvoline got lucky with whatever testing they were doing. Let's say Mobil has the additive, they did not do the testing that Valvoline did for whatever reason.

Everybody always talks about marketing, but do any major brands actually fail to do what they claim? My experience says Mobil 1 lives up to its claims 100%. So yeah, I get that marketing highlights trendy things sometimes, but I've not really seen claims from major brands that they can't back up. So it's really more than just marketing, IMHO.

I’ll be honest and many will disagree. I think Amsoil has the best marketing. I like to know by how much an oil exceeds the industry standards. Amsoil runs tests that far surpass standards. I understand there is an element of trust involved. I trust Amsoil and HPL.
Amsoil's own "tests" lol. I am waiting to see when Lake does a test comparing Driven, Amsoil and Redline as he promised.

FWIW, AMSOIL doesn't run the tests, they are run by SWRI, who does the testing for many of the majors.
"An independant" lab" is all I see.

I loved Lake's procesure to test used oil. UOA for particles that your eyes can't see, and that little machine for particles that UOA can't see. My gut feeling says if he does that test on Amsoil SS versus Mobil 1 EP, Mobil 1 EP will win 😆

Good questions. Same video that said by chance was where they said additive.

So all you need to test oil (and then make a YouTube video) is to measure particles?

Is that what your gut is telling you?

There are some cool folks here on this board, don't get me wrong. But wish a guy like Lake Speed was here who could do tests and show us. Not just talks. It's amazing how he single-handedly silenced all the Truck & SUV skeptics

Overkill promised that he would get with hpl to test what fuel does to oil. I am eagerly waiting for that. Folks run thicker oil and think they will be fine. But I think that's not the solution. Viscosity loss is not the only harm that fuel does to oil. I just don't think one will be fine carrying around 5% fuel in the oil pan for 6 months lol

I give them a lot of credit for that because you don't know otherwise, no matter how much a company touts what components they use. That's why Mobil calls it proof of performance.

Amsoil gives you the most data. Mobil gives you some such as 20x greater oxidation resistance compared to IIIH. The majors actually do give you some data to go by if you look at the footnotes. Most give a % for IVA, IIIH and some other tests. Better than nothing. Also proof that certified oils are not always just bare min formulated products.

Here is some comparisons from Mobil 1 Classic Euro (ESP I believe) via Chinese PDS.

Are you questioning Lake's testing method? Please show us a better way
Comparative oil quality testing is complicated and expensive. Tests such as the Sequences are run at labs such as SWRI as Overkill noted. They are comprehensive in scope, I suggest you look into what’s involved rather than basing all of your apparent understanding on YouTube personalities.

No I don’t worship at the Altar of Lake. The fact that you don’t understand what Overkill wrote, nor even attempt to understand it (the Amsoil website response) do show everything anyone needs to know about your responses in this topic.
