My local ChinaCart carries as big a selection of oil as anyone around, and they don't have Mobil 1 0w30. THey have 0w20, but no 0w30. AAP used to carry it, not sure if they still do.

Thanks. Apparently they plan on pushing the "0w" oils so maybe we will see more of it. I'd rather use their 0w30 over the 5w30. Meets all the same specs although volatility might be higher. Great winter oil though. PP -65F.

Debated for several weeks whether to use Mobil 1 0W-20 or 0w30 earlier this year. Went to W-M but all they had at the time was 0W-20.

Finally decided on 0w30 so went next door to NAPA Auto, ordered a case of it and picked it up next afternoon.

Both are PAO/Grp V but the 0w30 is about 3 cSt's thicker at operating temp.

HT/HS spec is what eventually swayed me to it. It's in middle ground at 2.99 v 0W-20's 2.62 and 5w30's 3.09

Most modern engines do very well with low HT/HS numbers and Mobil has been making them for awhile. You gain fuel efficiency.

That was readily apparent with previous fill of Mobil 1 5W-20.

That 6K OCI did give better fuel economy and performance than current fill and is why it took so long to decide between the two viscosities (0W-20/0W-30).

In the end, it was Mobil's reticence to publish a current PDS for 0W-20 SM, that actually swayed me to 0W-30. I just kept wondering what they were trying to hide by this action.

The new PDS for 0w-20 SM should be out soon I was told. On the back of the bottles, it says -65F pp.

How certain are we that its PAO and Grp V without GrpIII? We have 0w30 here in CO at WM.

You can't be certain about any brand actually. None of them will every fully disclose the composition.

Thats what I thought too, except for the niche players anyway such as Motul, NEO, and the like. I could be wrong there.

0W-30 got pushed off the shelves at those Walmarts that did carry it, to make room for the 0W-40 and the 5-20.
I'd use it if it were available around here reasonably priced.

Not to sidetrack but why two grades in M1 and other brands? 5W30 fills the bill for all requiring it so why 0W30 in addition? 0W20 is required in a few hybrids now so I can almost understand having a 0 and a 5W20. Marketing for more shelf space?
