I was thinking about using MMO in my next change on my Rendezvous. It takes 4.5 qts on a change, replace 1/5 of that with MMO would be 0.9 qt of MMO. I'm still on my first change of EDGE in this car and am thinking of changing it around 10000-12500 depending how it looks and smells.

Will I still be able to go that long with the MMO in the oil? Or just keep an eye on it so it doesn't all burn up and just add more EDGE as it needs it?

Thanks

What are you trying to have the MMO accomplish?

If it's cleaning a dirty engine, than you shouldn't be going 12500 miles on an oil change.

Very long OCI and MMO together do not make any sense to me.

Well this was my first change with EDGE. Before all she had in the car was whatever the quick-lube places put in it. Who knows what was in it.
That's why I was thinking of trying it out. Not for continual use. Just this one time for a nice engine cleansing.

You're talking about looks and smells,10k to 12.5k?,what about some kind of assurance the 'Edge' will take you to the edge.
MMO, I've found is great for a mildly neglected engine,If its not ,in this case, go straight to the Edge no worries ,but if only you had a OLM in that, would I say its safe at 10k to 12.5k.without the data???

Run a PF52, dump in 5 quarts of your favorite flavor, and call it a day. If you want to MMO it, wait until a few hundred miles before change time.

I would use Pennzoil YP with MMO first, then switch to Edge.

I'm doing essentially that, except I added MMO to my last 1500 miles on MaxLife 5w30. I'm using Edge over the summer...

Forgive my ignorance, but what is Pennzoil YP?

I'm thinking about just adding the MMO to the last 1000 miles of this change too. Not sure what I am going to do though yet.

"Yellow Bottle" Pennzoil conventional, which makes the claim that it can clean out up to "40% of the sludge" in the first oil change...

Just found this on another thread: "MMO is not recommended to be used for extended drain intervals. In fact on their site they suggest to follow the mfg OCI intervals only. If you plan on running an extended OCI and want to use MMO add it for the last 500-1000 miles of the OCI."

So now if I am going to put this in 1000 miles before the change how would I do this without overfilling the tank?

Sorry just a beginner at this stuff.

I add MMO to my oil about 500 miles before the oil change. I gives me a darker oil which indicates it is doing some cleaning and likely holding the crud in suspension to it drains out with the rest of the oil.

I also use Auto RX about every 50K for a cleaning.

thanks MMasz!

I also found this on another thread:

" I run MMO and synthetic for 10,000 miles, and my valves and pistons are clean , clean. I use MMO every time and I my cars/truck are “smoother, quieter, and has more compression.” I don’t need tests cause I drive them every day, and I can feel it. We have run MMO in our family’s engines for 60 years and NOT ONE blown/ seized motor. We run it in our cars, trucks, tractors, lawn mowers, snow blowers, weedeaters, air tools, and as a metal protector, bicycles ,hinges...you name it! MMO is the best thing since sliced bread! Period."

So i'm still debating what to do. Some people say not long OCI others say it can be used with synthetic and for the full 10,000 OCI.
Just found out a friend of mine put a quart of MMO in with his Castrol Syntec change before winter. Says it is running fantastic, nothing burned off yet and he is planning on going his normal 10,000 OCI.

I have gone 5000 miles with syntetic oil a MMO. I left the MMO in the entire time, I doubt it does much in the last 500 miles, its a gentle cleaner. In my Opinion, the 15,000 mile Edge is overrated. Dont get me wrong, I love Castrol and use it and have always been impressed with it, but if you want a clean motor, why push it, use the Edge and MMO as you said, but only go 5000, or use a conventional and go 3000 miles. It is short intervals, but it will clean your engine, I was impressed how much blacker the oil came out when I used MMO of what I thought should be a clean engine.

I've run it full OCIs many times, although I don't do extended drains. I would visit the MMO forum and ask your question there. Rich Kelly is very friendly and informative, he will take all the guess work out of the equation. My friends that do extended drains and use MMO tpyically add it to the last 1000-1500 miles of their OCI.

If you do post on the MMO board let us know what Mr. Kelly says.

I agree with your comment. I should have given a caveat in my post. My engine is clean and the MMO for the last 500 miles is just to get the fine particles into suspension. Auto-Rx is probably better as a cleaner, especially if your engine has been neglected.

If that were truly the case, then we would not be talking about MMO. I have used both products and MMO did a better job cleaning up the engine, especially the VALVETRAIN.

I am actually running MMO and castrol edge right now. I am gonna do the UAO at 6k, when I did my MMO UOA with dino oil I could have gone around 4k.

If I want to add some into this oil change, around 1000 miles before I do the change. How would I add it since it is already nice and filled. Because if I add the MMO wouldn't that over fill the tank?

Also I did go ahead and post on the MMO site, no replies yet, but I will copy over what they say.
