Hmm, I didnt know Champion was now making the AC Delco filters but I did know Bosch was no longer made by them.

AC delco used to be a heavy duty looking filter, now they are chincy. I dont go for that encore at all. I liked the ACs that looked like they could stop a bullet. The new ones are a joke compared to the old ones.

He doesn't seem too sure about the Purolator Pure One filter. Has anyone had any "flow" problems with this filter?

I think the only real value to this dissertation on filters is the construction aspect of them. We have the "look" of each filter's construction to base our opinion on. In reality this tells us very little about the performance of each design. While I'm not a big Fram fan, it seemed to come in last in this little contest, yet millions upon millions of them have been using on cars and actual documented complaints or failures have been minimal, probably no higher than any of the rest of the group. Also, I don't think there's any correlation between "seeing more pleats in a Pure One" and concluding that it probably "has flow restriction problems". On what are those, (para phrased) conclusions based? More porus media, and less area equals more area and less porus media in my world???

No filter is inherently flawed by design and design doesn't indicate any level of performance.

Frams are fine. They just typically cost too much for the level of performance that they deliver. Even in their more robust offerings, they're typically matched or out performed for less money.

The performance of oil filters tends to follow the "you get what you pay for" rule (Fram excluded) and you'll pay premiums for extended performance above standard offerings and the further you penetrate the upper strata of performance spec's ..the more you'll pay a premium.

I've never had any flow issues with the Pure One. I would advise against anyone running the orange Frams. I've seen too many of them come apart and collapse inside on friends' cars.

What symptoms made you open them up to discover they came apart and collapsed?

This was quite a while ago. We we made aware of the problem which could be encountered on that filter. It just so happened that six of my friends were running the filter and two of them malfunctioned. Another wasn't filtering worth [censored] because large chunks of stuff were coming out with the oil when it was being drained.

All the same,I'm running an Mobil 1 filter w/ Mobil 1 Extended Performance oil for 1 year, which is 6500-7000 miles,for me, then changing both. I think I'm safe enough doing it this way to save UOA money.

That would be plenty safe. Some people run that long on conventional oil with a regular filter and still show safe on a used oil analysis.

Thanks,man. I read all the used oil analysis and reached the conclusion that it would be safe. I can get a year's worth of Mobil 1 Extended Performance for the cost of a used oil analysis so that's the way I'm rolling, for now.
