The first tab removes the online and Amazon search results form the dashboard and the Diagnostics tab will disable the automatic tracking for supposed diagnostic reasons. All come turned on by default.

By default, things you type into the Dash (the all-encompassing search utility) are sent anonymously to Canonical who returns Amazon results for your query. Canonical gets the referral $ if you click on one of these results and purchase something.

Despite the anonymous nature of this data transaction, Canonical would still have some record of the IP address that supplied these results, for whatever that is worth; and that is why some people find the process objectionable.

Thank you for passing that on. I looked at mine and it seems I've already been under the hood a little so to speak and nixed those settings.

Apple set this standard. All the apple users determined it didn't matter to them that Apple collected all their info, habits, etc. If the customer doesn't care, why would a company not do this? This is the problem with ignorant consumers.

I consider ShutUp 10 to be a great program. ShutUp10 is entirely free and does not have to be installed. Moreover, it will not install or download potentially unwanted or unnecessary software (PUPs), like so many other programs do these days! My son installed it for my grandson's PC and is fully satisfied with its functioning as he doesn't have to worry about his personal data and malicious content any more.
