Microsoft gathering EVERYTHING( Windows10 )

If you have upgraded to Windows 10 you might be shocked at the number of features that are enabled to share and send your personal data to Microsoft AND that can easily be accessed by others. I sure was even though I had heard some about this. I took the time this morning to go through and shut all that [censored] off. I suggest you look and do the same otherwise everything you do is sent to someone and people can easily get into your system.

1. - Go to Settings>Network and Internet.
Wi-Fi is the 1st on the list( on left )and should be highlighted. If not select Wi-Fi. Scroll down and click on Manage Wi-Fi settings. This let's you shut off WiFi Sense which gives easy access to your computer via WiFi. Disable both Connect to suggested hotspots and Connect to networks shared by my contacts. This doesn't shut your WiFi off it just closes the wide open door letting others have easy access to it.

2.) - Go to Settings>Privacy.
This is a big one. I had no idea Microsoft was gathering so much info! Start with the General option to the left and work your way down through the list( on left )shutting off all the things Microsoft has enabled by default that collect and send your data out, share your location, allows access to your system features, etc....

Obviously it is your call but as said I was stunned at the amount of things they have enabled to collect data from us. I shut it all down this morning. IMo this kind of thing should be illegal!

I'll explain why they do this, but keep in mind I'm not defending Microsoft. They have consistently made decisions making the previous versions of Windows a virus and malware festival, and now are paying the price in the marketplace since people are finding that tablets are easier to learn and don't get infected as much.

Microsoft is moving towards a system where they manage the O/S more like a smart phone. Since PC's can run any kind of application are not limited (for most) to a walled garden app store (yes I know about side loading and alternate stores), they have less of an idea how each patch and update will affect everyone's PC.

To achieve a smartphone/tablet level of security and consistancy, it will take lots and lots and lots of consumer data for them so they can sort through the security and usability ramification of each update (button things down without breaking your third party app).

As for location, consumers want to type in "chinese food near me" and get exactly that. Advertisers want to limit local advertising to local viewers.

Again, not promoting anything Microsoft does or suggesting throwing the doors wide open. I button down all my systems, too. Just explaining why.

I don't think they email anyone for access.

Of course they do. They always have. Its well documented that there are commercial companies which specifically sell backdoors to foreign (and domestic) countries.

But even if you Shut it all down it still does not matter.. If you want it private don't use a computer or the internet..
I don't use this p.c. for anything except surfing the net and a few forums because it is an open book for i.d. theft, fraud, and anything else even sneaky wives, lol . Anyone with a little time and a few crafty programs can do the same thing nothing is private online don't kid yourself.

I always take any operating system with the grains of salt that everyone will see what I'm doing on it. There is no such thing as privacy on the Internet, including the device you access it with. Treat it as such.

I have an expectation of privacy when I use the bathroom, even though I have nothing criminal to hide.

I have an expectation of security when I use a banking site, even though I'm not money laundering.

Privacy and security is for everyone (except the NSA, who lost all their best secrets to WikiLeaks).

And as for tinfoil hats, take a look at what has been already revealed they're already doing.

Due to a SaskPower SNAFU yesterday, I had to buy a new computer. Of course, these things never happen when I can plan for it and get exactly what I want, with no OS, and so forth. Even Windows 8.1 on this HP I picked up had a lot of information being sent to MS et al for no discernible reason. I went through a manual set up, since I needed to download a Mint image and burn it.

Of course, the burning software was a type that was new to me. First off, I'll never understand why an operating system the size of Windows cannot operate a basic piece of computer hardware - the burner. Linux does it without grabbing a bunch of extra stuff. In any event, the FAQ and user guide for the burning software were written in Chinglish, and Windows didn't offer much on the context menu. So, I checked for a how to for this piece of software, and the buffoon, I mean professional journalist, who wrote it, had three pages of useless instructions. In the end, I figured it out myself. Right click on the image, click open with whatevertheheckitscalled, and then click burn in the package itself, assuming a DVD is in the burner. I'm so glad he wrote three useless pages.

Well, I got my Mint back on and just have to migrate some data, but rant over. Yes, they do collect a lot of stuff. I thought it was bad before in my last foray into Windows. It's not getting any better, is it?

For every hole that MS has so that they can spy on you, some 13 year old can use it to gather info.

Tinfoil hat on nice and snug. I am hiding my credit card numbers, bank account number, SS#, statements... and anything else that can allow some punk to steal my identity.

Only trolls ask you to remove the tinfoil hat, or even insults someone who cares about their privacy.

BTW, I watched illegals(the cleaning crew) sort thru company non-shredded HR garbage and steal multiple colleague identities. The company now wears a tinfoil hat and shreds EVERYTHING. All work computers auto log out, passwords changed every 90 days, AV auto-update and scans daily(overnight), more snug firewall, more serious look and OS updates and security flaws, and employees are better trained in privacy of all for protection. Nothing like battling the bank/lenders, and the city and state income tax offices, and the IRS for back taxes because you worked 15 full time jobs that year without paying taxes, had 50 credit cards maxed out, and multiple loans...

I've blocked the Windows 10 updates and the data collections for smoother transition when upgrading. Will give it a year to see how bad 10 really is. Already am competent with non-MS OS's. Time to move away from MS Windows. And, no fan of the apple fruit either.

2. Any banking transaction is trackable right down to the penny.
3. WikiLeaks has only ever scratched the very surface of NSA activity.
4. Privacy and the information age are mutually exclusive.

If you have a cell phone, computer, tablet, credit/debit card, loan, own a late model car, have a membership, cable or satellite TV, own a major appliance, rent or lease anything, walk into a store, a shopping mall, drive a car or truck, fly or be a passenger on an airplane, appeared in court, sighed a piece of paper, have a license or permit of any kind, go to the doctor or healthcare provider, fill or accept a prescription and on and on your privacy is history.
