That never happens up here. Big snow dumps always come with at least some warning, so you can make a case for just-get-me-home levels of snow traction. But man, if I thought a foot of snow could land any day, and I didn't have winter tires, I'd dump bricks.

And these are the idiots that are doing 10 in the left lane on the highway, blocking everyone who is smart enough to run winters from actually getting where they want to go in a reasonable time.

While that is big big problem, this is super big problem:
Two years ago there was 68 car pile up on I-70 East just before Denver coming down from mountains on 7% grade. Someone started to brake and then rest of the cars just slammed into each other. Problem is that people who run AS tires are ALWAYS concern about moving forward. That is why in Colorado when it snows cars in the ditch are JEEP's, Subarus and pick-up trucks. Most drivers of JEEP think that their 4WD is best out there not taking into consideration that that is OK off road, and that on road it is POS vehicle. They are first in the ditch. Drivers of Subarus. All that image of unstoppable Subaru in snow, contributes to Outback after Outback in the ditch when I drive on local roads. And then pick up trucks, that is kind of self explanatory.
SO you drive in front of them, and you brake having winter tires, and you see in mirror driver trying to keep car in lane because he./she cannot stop. Every time I overtake one of those idiots that drive 10mls in left lane I make sure I leave them far behind. That is how accidents happen. You have someone able to brake in those conditions and than bunch of morons who "can get by" on AS tires.

Like I say, 4WD just puts you further into the ditch.

I passed that point some time ago after some girl ran red light bcs she could not brake properly. I had 4 month old kid in the car and wife.
No more correctness on my side after that any more. Only reason why she did not hit me is that I always pay attention whether all cars stopped or some will go thru.

It's not "correctness"; it's just practicality. Insults repel people, so they're a bad way to convince. Also, calling someone an idiot based on one bad call is making a rod for your own back; literally everyone makes bad calls all the time, so you're implying criteria by which everyone is an idiot, including you. We all know that's preposterous, don't we?

There's almost always a better way to say it. The act of using sub-optimal tires increases risk. The reasoning is almost always myopic. People do myopic and risky things all the time, even if they're perfectly intelligent. Instead of making sweeping statements about them, blame the act and the reasoning. It's more accurate, more honest, and a better way to convince.

I get what you saying, and that is way to address a lot of issues. I just lost patience when it comes to this matter. In today's world where all info is available at moment, people still find excuses not to do it.
