Vehicle: 2005 Toyota Sienna. Bought these from Discount, for which Michelin makes the Harmony. Coming off a set of Kumhos that lasted about 26K miles. Got partial warranty $$ applied to the michelins. Original tires from the factory were Dunlop SP4000, which were the fastest wearing OEM tires I have ever seen. I rotate tires every 6K and keep it aligned. Have about 23K on the michelin harmonys and they are about 2/3 worn out. Traction is decent, but down this low, snow traction is not good at all. When new, they were pretty good in the snow. Last month when I took it in for the 'free' rotation, they said they would give me $$ towards new tires next rotation. I have had michelins on several other vehicles, and I believe the harmonys are not as good as the other michelins I have had before. I suspect that they are not as well made as the non-store brand michelins. Anyway, these tires are no better or worse than the cheaper Kumhos. Nothing special in any way. Handling is average, rain traction is average. They are quiet though and have been easy to keep in balance. Next tire will be most likely the Pirelli P4 I have on another car. So far, it seems like a really good tire.

For a van, performance is probably not critical. My dad has a set of the Michael Radial X tires from Sam's Club, which I believe are very similar to the Harmonys. He has over 60k on the set and still has 6/32 remaining.

I think the Costco X is a much better tire. I have seen the X go for a ton of miles on friends/family vehicles. I don't think they are as similar as one might think. The rubber compound looks/feels much more stout on the X. Plus, it looks to have a much more defined shoulder and better tread design. I just really think the harmony is a very low end tire and is no better than the middle of the road Wal mart Goodyears and the like.

Wow. Sis gets way more miles than that with her Harmony tires, even on an AWD Subaru.

Are you sure it's not your van, that's causing this? Have you ever had ANY set of tires go over 30,000 miles on it?

No, so I can't rule that out completely.

But...I tend to not think its the vehicle because, the tires wear evenly, no cupping etc, get rotated, regular alignments, every other week PSI checks. I actually think it is three things. 1. Sienna is a heavy vehicle (vs. say a Subaru) and the 215/65-16 size in the harmony and the Kumhos is not as well constructed as one of the more performance size tires like a 235/xx-17. I have seen other peoples' michelins (non-harmony)on the larger Sienna 17 inch wheels last much longer than my harmonys (the 235 width always have a heavier load rating in the 16 inch size as well as the 17 inch variety and cost more than the 215). 2. The Dunlop sp4000s are well known as [censored] and the Kumhos in that size just are not good for a large vehicle--that's what the Discount tire guy said when they wore out fairly quickly (wish they told me that when I bought them). 3. I have read recently that the Harmony is supposedly a Michelin in name only and that it is not one of their upper end tires and is made in one of the old Uniroyal/Goodrich plants that they acquired when they bought them out. Don't know if any of that is true, but I suspect that if I went upsize to a 235 in a 17 inch tire, or even a 235 in a 16, the Harmony would last longer on the Sienna. The X radial is quite a bit more than the Harmony in the same size, so it's possible it is a better constructed tire as well.

Now that I think about it, this van is probably a good candidate for the Michelin Hydroedge tires. Those tires are incredibly long wearing and deliver reasonable wet traction and good steering response.

Just so everyone understands: Most tire wear occurs when the vehicle is turning corners.

In order to generate a sideways force - the force needed to turn the vehicle, a tire has to generate a slip angle - the tire would be going slightly less than the angle it is turned. That cause the tread of the tire to slip - and that causes wear.

While there is some wear occurring during rolling (squirm), that wear is very slow and can almost be discounted.

Put another way, if you want good tire wear, go straight ahead and don't turn.

So when someone says he doesn't get very good tire wear, (or he says he gets great tire wear) the difference is probably just how many turns he makes compared to how many miles he drives.

I was wondering the same thing. My Dad's Olds 88 has Michelin Destinys and their wearing like they're made of iron.

JDD, Bridgestone dueler alenza is the tire I used on a Sienna. They have a 65K mileage warranty IIRC. The person I helped in this purchase sold the van after approx. 40K on the tires and they were wearing very well. It is a premium price tire like the Michelin. Check Tirerack for pricing. I believe ther was a $100 rebate at the time which made it a good buy. FWIW--Oldtommy

The last set of tires we had on the Aerostar were Harmonys.
They wore pretty well over the 30K or so that we used them, they rode well and were quiet, and rain and snow traction were decent.
The tires would have easily made 55-60K were the van still on the road.
The Aero, though, was much lighter than an '05 Sienna, so that may have been a factor, as well as the RWD, in wear.
The best set of tires the Aero ever had were the OEM Michelin XWX4s.
They were great in all conditions, and lasted 60K.

ABSOLUTELY!! I can add that the kind of roads you drive on combined with how fast you drive makes a HUGE difference too! The guys I work with who mostly drive up in central Ohio, mainly on the interstate & on straight, flat back roads routinely can get 20-30 K more out of the identical tires, on the same equally loaded van, than I do in a mix of urban stop & go/interstate driving, and on the hilly/curvy roads of northern Kentucky. If I drove more like a little old lady that would probably help too!

JDD, As a follow up regarding the Bridgestone dueler alenza, it appears that Bridgestone has reduced the mileage warranty to 40k miles from the previous 65k. I don't recall the tire size on my friend's sienna, but they don't make all the sizes in 15 and 16". Check the Tirerack web for your size. FWIW--Oldtommy

YES---YES!! they are the Destiny. I'm soooo embarassed. So to restate--The tires on my van are not the Michelin Harmony, but the DESTINY ! No excuses. MY BAD TOTALLY. Sorry, Michelin for that. I'm sure the Harmonys are great tires. So, anyway what I said about the tires is still my experience. Just sub Destiny for Harmony

Different stokes for different folks. The tire wear was perfect for you. The tires wore out while still under warranty,so now you get a pro rate. You don't want the tire to last longer than the warranty 'cause you don't get a pro rate. Come on,boys! You gotta start thinkin' like FZ1!

The Harmony is the tire that most retailers carry, the Destiny is the same basic tire with a slightly different tread design to make it a Discount Tire exclusive. I've owned several Destiny sets and consider it an excellent tire, especially for the money. I bought Pirelli P4s most recently because they were on sale. I consider the P4 to be comparable to the Destiny in overall quality, but they do different things well. The P4 is exceptionally comfortable with decent handling. The Destiny is reasonably comfortable but handles better than the P4. The P4 is on our 97 Camry, the Destiny a 98 Camry so the comparison is to essentially the same car.

We've got the Costco version of the Harmony - the X Radial DT on our Sienna, it's not a bad tire. The van feels better on these compared to the OEM Dunflop SP Sport 4000 A/S. I would have went with the TripleTreds or the HydroEdges on this van. But so far, so good and it made it through some Tahoe ice.

We had the X Radials from Sam's Club on our '07 Town & Country. Same size, 215/65R16. With the heavy vehicle, I probably would have gotten 60k miles out of them, okay in my book. They handled well and were quiet. Among the best tire value out there in my opinion.

Interesting assessment of the Destiny/Harmony. I found that the ride was not as comfortable as my Comfort Treads. I also found the Destiny/Harmony to emit the most road noise at 60 mph of any tire I have run. Took 'em back to DT.

I've never owned a set of comfort treads; we had a set of triple treads and liked them alot except they were noisy. I attributed the noise of the triple tread to their being directional tires. Tires have to be really loud for me to notice; the destinys were never loud enough on my 98 Camry to be a problem. I tend to replace tires when they hit 5/32 and I know that many tires become noiser as they age. I may have been pulling them before it became a real problem.

I'm really considering the Comfort Tread Touring next time my wife's 07 Camry needs tires. The CTT comes V rated in that size and has a 70k mileage warranty. I'll choose between it and the H rated Michelin Primacy that is currently on the car when the Primacys hit 5/32.
