My dad bought a Seiko solar from a jewerly store last Christmas and really likes it. Very nice. Plus the back of it won't get all mucked up when changing out the battery. I received a Seiko watch as a college graduation gift back in 1994. Still looks very nice and has the university picture on the face of the watch. Very subtle though and handsome.

I've been wearing the same fossil for almost 8 years. I've gotten compliments and it looks nice. Def. under $100, but I'm not sure it was a gift from my wife. I thought about getting a Breitling, but it doesn't fit my personality at all.

It currently needs a new battery so I'm wearing my weekend Timex Ironman. At least I'm not wearing my big Garmin...both of which fit my personality and lifestyle better than a fancy watch...

Just a good old simple 1950's Timex Marlin. It's been cleaned several times, the crystal has been replaced once and the band has been replaced twice. It keeps time without all the phony bells and whistles, and it is not a watch that looks like it belongs on a corrupt politician or car salesman.

Quite frankly, if you need a watch (or any other sort of jewelry or shiny baubles) to "impress" anyone then you need to reassess your skills.

You can deffinately buy a nice looking watch for under $100 but, if you're going to wear it often/years and you want it to last for under that $100 then, either buy online and get a good watch or, spend more money.

Your best prices on better watches is deffinately to buy online.
Amazon, Overstock, ShopHQ(formerly ShopNBC), Next Day Watches, World of Watches are my favorites

After wearing a watch for a while, I have realized how much I rely on it. Also it probably saves battery life on the phone.

Meh, I have the right phone so battery life isn't a worry lol

Galaxy Note 2, never had to worry about the battery.

But yes, i look at my watch a lot. I also feel it's a little more professional to look at your watch when talking about times and such than to pull out a phone.

I collect watches as many of you know, i keep about 60 give or take a few.

Here is a good German Made watch for short money, look at the mechanicals and Automatics.
These are made in a former east German watch factory using Swiss or Russian 3133 (very good) Chrono movements modified and decorated, they are very well done.
Not Lange or Glashutte standard but neither is the price.

The Damasko is incredible i just got another one of these. This is made in (West) Germany and uses some real unique building materials.
You cant go wrong with one of these if you like the style. Damasko is a tiny manufacturer but the watches would be 3-4x the price if they came from a big house.

Another real sleeper is the Royal Orient watches, these use an in house movement and a built to a high standard.
Seiko make some nice stuff but they are up there in price, a good Grand Seiko will set you back a few grand.

I have a number of nice watches I received as gifts from my boss. Modestly priced Tag, Bvlgari, Breitling etc. While they are all nice, I very much prefer my older Titanium Seiko. It looks classy, not flashy. And it's thin and moderately sized.

I've only ever owned Seiko watches. I love them.

The Kinetics are pretty nice. I love mine. I think I've own 5 of them. Keep several stored away.

I got my first when I went to high school, another upon high school graduation, then college graduation, bought my own, and got my last one when I got married.

Full-disclosure: I used to sell watches (worked at Watch Station + Sunglass Hut for a number of years).

Long-time Citizen Eco-Drive and Seiko quartz wearer. I have several of each. I really don't recommend an automatic or mechanical watch unless you like the old-fashionedness of winding it...they don't keep good time until you get up into the $1500+ mark, and even then they need a LOT of regular maintenance. I have a nice custom-built pilot's watch with an ETA mechanical movement, but even with regulation it still can't stay within +/- 15 seconds a day. Most quartz watches are +/- 15 s a week, often better.

My advice is to go with something quartz, avoid two-tone gold/silver, under $500, from a big name like Citizen, Seiko, ESQ, etc.

This is my go-to watch for suits and dress shirts: Seiko SNA411 flight chronograph. It's a quartz movement and can be had for under $400. I get a lot of complements and I think it's a very versatile watch. My particular one is good to about +/-5s a week, which is awesome for the money.

Victorinox has some interesting mechanical watches. Probably not chronometer level of accuracy (i.e Omega, Rolex, etc), but very cool looking.

Mine might be older than yours. Mine has a white face.

+1, I agree but then I met the Omega Aqua Terra 8500. *sigh*

I wear a cheap Timex that looks decent and wear it daily. Only time it comes off is when I swim or get in the shower. I am "lost" without it on my arm as I have been wearing a watch since high school...some 40 plus years.

I never saw the need for an expensive watch. But that's me.

And here is another:

Both of these watches are some of my favorite go to watches and are very difficult to find. I had some difficulty finding pics of them online as I don't often take pictures myself and post them here at Bob's.

The Seiko has been discontinued for many years but, can still be had. Both were purcheced new in their time.

The Elgin has the same movement as the Citizen NaviHawk Movement of the early-mid 90's(pre Eco-Drive).

Invicta Watches are another go to watch and well made for the money expecially online.

All of these watches are beefy and heavy

And I swim with all of them!

For a decent watch on a budget, I like Invicta. Their lower end watches have a Japanese movement, the higher end are Swiss. I am partial to diver watches and wanted something that was all black, and picked this one up for $65 a few weeks ago:

That sucks, honestly. My Orient mechanical is at +2s a day, and it hasn't even been calibrated.

My Seiko automatic on the other hand is pretty bad as far as accuracy.
