Maybe Dubya's right?

This'll get locked but oh well. Maybe George W's view of the world is correct! The argument from the left, especially in regards to this Churchill putz, is that the United States is the main entity that props up middle east despots for oil, and therefor the people of the middle east are getting screwed by us. Bull **** !!!!!!!! France and Russia did more to keep Saddam in power than we EVER did; it's mostly French multinational oil conglomerates that helped put the oil infrastructure in place in Iraq, isn't it? And the UN oil for food scandel. They did more to keep Saddam in power than we ever did. Shouldn't the left around the world be thanking George Bush for what he did? After all, he knocked down the biggest despot in the region and is possibly paving the way for freedom in the middle east. THAT IS THE LEFT'S ARGUMENT FOR WHY TERRORISTS HATE US!!!

Lefties need to understand (myself included) that you can't hate George Bush first.

My only problem is, I don't think the 911 hijackers and Bin Laden just woke up one morning and said, "we hate what the US stands for", "we hate the bill of rights and democracy, lets bomb them". Or did they? I think Pat Buchanan is right in that we are indirectly intruding on their culture. If it weren't for oil, who knows what that region of the world would look like. Better or worse?

I'm not suggesting we are in Iraq for oil, but I think selling democracy to this culture is dangerous. It might work and be the best thing we ever did, then again it migh not and backfire on us. That part of the world is also much to religious. Do we even have the right to push democracy on another country? Remember the war went from WMD's to Democracy. Iran is a huge threat for sure. The cultures are clashing and poverty doesn't help any either. Democracy and modernization could help alleviate that, but who knows....

Yea Buster, I see your point. But I don't think Ward Churchill's argument that we, the US, being the main culprit for stading up middle eastern dictators for oil, stands up to the facts at this point. I don't agree with Dubya that we should go knocking off dictators, one after another, to spread freedom around the world. But we sure aren't the only country that has propped them up in the past! And we in no way deserved what happened on 9/11. I like Pat Buchanan a lot, but his argument is incorrect I think as well. If we just 100% closed up shop in the middle east, we would still have terrorism and islamic fascism as an enemy IMO. Don't pitty the marter; he loves his job. In the end, I'm afraid it's us or them.
