Just for fun, what would the world be like in 100 years, if someone were to write a book or make a movie? I dont want to offend anyone, as its just fantasy. Heres some of my thoughts, as far fetches as they may seem. Anyone care to add?
The US, Mexico, and Canada will combine to become the "UNA", "United Northern America". It will include the original 49 US states (more on this to come) plus new states Puerto Rico, Cuba (with Fidel Castro as its first governator), and Guam, plus all of Mexico's states and Canada's provinces. Unfortunately, California had become so unstable with the earthquakes and the melting polar icecaps raising the sea level that the majority of it has become unsafe. The surrounding states absorbed what was left.
The major economic powers include European Union, (which includes Russia, Turkey, Egypt, Libya, Morrocco), the "UNA", "The United Far East", and China. Unfortunately, the Middle East is still in turmoil as the oil demand has been virtually eliminated and they can no longer sell their oil reserves, which are estimated to have lasted another 1000 years at 2004 consumption levels. Chaos rules, as their old wealth dries up. The source of fuel for the world comes from "depolymerization refineries" which convert any and all wastes into a high grade of diesel which provides for all of our transportation needs, with major additional surpluses.
Personal transport consists of a one person, 3 wheeled diesel/electric "personal transportation/entertainment module", which get around 120 mpg each. Everyone has one, even newborn babies and kids. The baby's and the kid's modules can be linked together to the parents modules, creating a small family "train vehicle" with all the modules providing power to the others, getting around 200 mpg. Buses, and mass transit systems, also link to these modules to create "transportation assemblies" which uses the power of each module to power the whole. Even planes tap into the power of these modules, as everyone will travel with their module.
As far as power generation, most of the electrical power is generated on the moon. Some whiz had perfected the "Tesla Coil" system which "beams" electrical power from the moon to "absorbtion centers" on Earth which redistribute the electicity. As the moon orbits around the earth, it beams energy to the absorption centers as it passes over them. The elecricity is essentially free, except for the recovery cost tax.
