IRAQ by Dennis Miller

While Saddam and Bin Laden are two seperate people,we do know that there were terrorist training camps in Iraq.

I think the adage of "An enemy of MY enemy is MY friend" applies here.

The terrorist training camps were in the US patrolled region of teh no-fly zones. (yes that's right, the US air force was protecting terrorists from Saddam). The reality is that Saddam was very secular, and he had absolutely no tolerence for Islamists. Terror is a much bigger problem in Iraq then under Saddam. Why do you think the Iraqi people are so unhappy with the security situation? Because it is MUCH WORSE then under Saddam.

The Kremlin was actually more rational then the Whitehouse. The notion of "first strike" capability is a highly theortical one and beyond the understanding of the layman.

Are you serious? The Kremlin didn't want another German style path of destruction, since the communists would lose everything and be known as the ones who "lost." They actually played it well; their philosophy was, live and fight another day and emerge as another form of poilitcal facism. They weren't more rational, just more cunning. ACLU and LEFTY's have taken note!

The thing about this era is the Whitehouse meant what they said. Both John Kennedy and Reagan would have "assured" the destruction of Russia. Our yields, acccuracy of targeting, etc was much better than the Russians.

If MAD worked against the Soviets, I don't understand how it cannot work against NKorea or Saddam.

I think that answer is evident. They could not assure our destruction, which is the definition of MAD.

I think the best one could ever gurantee in a first strike was a 90% elimination of Soviet warheads, which today would leave about 600 warheads, and at the peak of the cold war would have left about 4000 warheads (I believe Soviet nukes peaked at about 22,000) Also a single Typhoon class could pretty much wipe out every major US city (as can a single US Trident class). the SS-18 Satan missile was pretty much the first strike weapon that caused the US to start SALT II talks. SALT II limited the depolyment of this missile but it is still in service today and is VERY formidable.

Yeah but the US can assure their destruction, so why do we fear them?

We as in the west? Isn't the US making a big issue of Iran and N Korea nuke programs? Who gives a rats *** . If any of their stuff show up in the USA they know exactly what will happen.

You are apparently to young to remember air raid drills in grade school, Duck&Cover commercials, backyard bomb shelters, the Cuban Missles crisis, and best of all Dr. Stragelove.

People have always wanted to kill, always will, live with it.

That's why the war in Iraq doesn't bother me. We need a friendly democratic state in the Middle East as a staging area for our military so we can continue to hunt down and kill fundamentalist islamist groups bent on our destruction and the countries that harbor them.

All this talk of WMDs and appeasing these towel heads is a bunch of HOOEY. If they don't want to sell their oil at a fair price, take care of their people, and live peacefully among other nations, we should just "take them out", like we did Saddam. Enough with this (think cat or kitten) footin' appeasement bullhockey already!

Boy, sure would be nice to know if snopes actually asked Miller if he said this or not....to me it would have a heck of alot more credibility than trying to compare this to his comic style.

I didnt see anything rock solid in that snopes decription that proves any thing either way.

IMO, snopes is an ok site, but some of their "justifications" seem to come right out of thin air, just like the emails that they are trying to prove false.

Heck, who doesn't like Dr. Strangelove!!! Based on your post I bet you're a big fan of the cowboy that rides the H-bomb right to it's target.

I feel compelled to clarify something. The west wasn't attacked on 9/11, the U.S. was. The west isn't involved in a war in Iraq, the U.S. is.....If something is going to be done about N. Korea, or Iran, or any other threat, then It will be the U.S. involved...........Not canada....not mexico....not columbia or brazil or argentina.

I dunno, seems they pretty clearly state it ran in a newspaper attributed to someone.

So you either ask Dennis Miller, or you find who you think really wrote it.

quote:

This particular offering did run in the Times Record News, the only newspaper in Wichita Falls, Texas. It appeared as a Letter to the Editor on 26 February 2003, with its author identified as W. Wayne Schields of Wichita Falls. How the piece came to be attributed to Dennis Miller remains a mystery. We're left to suspect that someone, in an effort to imbue the essay with credibility, slapped the popular comedian's name onto something he particularly liked and wanted others to likewise appreciate.

quote:

What is untrue? Are you disputing Dennis Miller said it?

Yes,

Dennis Miller DID NOT say it. That is what the linke I posted early in this thread from snopes states and that is what truthminers is saying as well.

This points out the importance of double and triple checking everything you read on the internet, even when it is about oil wrestling, LOL

As an administrator, people look at your posts and give them more weight than the general public. You (unintentionally) used this power to promote somthing that is untrue and (as you first reply indicates) the lie won't stop on this thread. Please research these types of posts before sharing lies with the forum. http://truthminers.com/truth/patriotism.htm#dennis

Truthminers is a good site (the one I use most), but sometimes falls behind (only one woman making the site). Snopes is good. Hoaxbusters is a good site. Or you can do a google search. Thanks for your consideration.

Chad,I am highly disappointed that your first post was one criticizing Dan

Doesn't matter. When Saudis launch missiles at our aircraft we take action. Bet you didn't know that!

Ask Noriega what happens when your military takes pot shots at our Officers. Bet you didn't know that either.
