marvel mystery oil

Some people have noticed a difference using it in their gas, I don't recommend putting it in your oil. It will thin the oil and deplete additive concentration and TBN retention. You have one less quart of motor oil and substitute it with something that has no additive package. It will also thin viscosity right from the start.

I use it all the time in the gas of my Tundra and of the misses Honda Civic. I use it in the oil of her car too. I have been using MMO for aprox 13 years now and I love it. An old man in his 80's told me about it once and he swore by it. I know you will run into people that swear by it and some that swear at it because it's "snake oil." I truly believe in it because how many other "snake oils" have been around as long as MMO has. Most of additives come and go or are smacked with lawsuits. MMO to my knowledge and research has never been sued. I notice a difference in fuel mileage in the miss's car when I use it. I average 2-3 mpg more when I use it in her car and you don't hear the injectors as much so I know it's lubricating them well. My Tundra is a different story because I don't drive it often, just start it up and let it run for about 15mins (it's stored). No matter what others say, I will use it in everything that I own that has an internal combustion engine. I have also posted some things on their website at http://www.marvelmysteryoil.com under the testimonials section. It saved the tranny in my wife's 91 Civic. Good luck.

Time ran out to edit my last post. To clarilfy it more, I do use MMO in the gas of my Tundra but I don't know how MMO affects it's mpg because I do not drive it much at all. I mainly start it up, get it to normal operating temp and let it fast idle for a while...I do that about once a week. Then once a month I drive it around the block for about 30 mins or so.

im storing my car too. I put stabil in the tank of gas and just new oil in the engine. fogging oil int eh cylinders and cranked the engine. car has been sitting for 17 days so far. Just added some air into the tires. I plan on starting it up every month and driving it at the same time for a good 30 minutes. with a/c being run for at least 2 minutes. ! is that a good idea or should i start it some time soon?

Bought a quart of MMO a few months back. Put a few ounces in the gas and the rest in the crankcase. I burn a fair bit of oil so I'd hoped the MMO might clean things out, but I can't say I noticed much difference for better or worse.

I've used it for years (got that from my dad years ago). Can't say it ever did anything noticeable. On the Saturn forums they recommend doing a MMO soak on the cylinders to loosen up the coked ring packs. It didn't do anything but leave a trail of smoke.
I'm using ARX in my Saturn right now and in 1k miles my comp # increased +-10psi. :) Not to mention a very noticable increase in performance.

I got a lot of useful info from this site. http://men.msn.com/articlepm.aspx?cp-documentid=1292890&GT1=8883

It is important to run the A/C so the seals and such do not dry up and it keeps the system cycled. Also, when you drive the car, make sure you use the reverse gear too. Do not do hard starts from a stop sign or light until you drive it a little bit. I use a synthetic oil because IMO it coats the engine better during the time the engine is not run. For instance, I ran M1 5w-30 once and when I would let my truck sit for approx 3 weeks or so before I start it, when I started it, the engine sounded like was going to come apart for about 2 secs until the oil pumped throughout the engine. Since I have been using RP 5w-30 and now Valvoline Synpower 5w-30, I have let my truck sit for a little over 1 month, in the same weather conditions, and there is no rattle noises at all when I first start it. The truck sits outside but I do have it in the shade with a custom fit car cover on it and wheel/tire covers over the wheels. Good luck

It all depends why your engine is using oil. If your oil rings on your pistions are stuck causing you to have "blow by" then ARX or MMO will help or even stop the blow by. If your rings are cracked, wore out, etc or if your valve guides or seals are gone/wore out, then nothing this going to keep your car from using oil unless you replace the faulty parts. You may use something to help slow it down but it will always use some oil until you get the problem fixed. Please for your engines sake, do not use a SAE 50 weight oil or something like that to slow down your oil consumption. You will destroy your engine because lack of quick lubrication at start-up and in cold weather. I cannot tell you how many engines I have rebuild because of people doing that.

I have used it in my 180,000 mile Voyager van. I buy a quart and put half in the oil 500 miles before changing. And half in the gas tank.
It cleaned out the fuel system that would stumble some when cold. It is smooth as new now when I first start it and drive off.It also darkened the oil before changing. I imagine that it contains some added detergents.I use it to keep things clean. The quarts are pretty cheap at Walamrt.

Yup....that's where I get my MMO from, good ole Wally World. MMO contains Mineral Spirits so that's what helps with the cleaning. It's just all around a great product. It keeps your engine from getting varnish and/or sludge. Especially the engines that are known for the sludge problems.

I don't believe there is any comparison between MMO and ARX.

MMO is a solvent and ARX is not.

MMO changes the very important chemistry of your oil, making it impossible to safely leave it in your crankcase, long enough for it to effectively remove engine deposits.

ARX is entirely different.

It doesn't change the chemistry of your oil in any way at all. It is carried by your oil directly to unwanted deposits, where it adheres and slowly and safely dissolves them, all the while leaving your oil exactly the way it was designed to be.

They are two different products for different applications. If you want regular cleaning at a little over $3 MMO is there. If you need something stronger and have more serious issues ARX is the way to go.

If ARX dissolves deposits then it does have solvent ability. MMO is safe to leave in an engine during an entire OCI. I have been using it for over 13 years now and I have been using it in my mother’s 1993 Nissan Pathfinder, which she still has, since new. It has 142K on it now, uses no oil what so ever, does not smoke or ping and the inside of the engine is as clean as it was the day she bought it new. I also have been using it in the fuel of her truck from time to time too. That truck purrs.

They are definitely very different. I certainly agree with you on that.

I have used it in the gas tank for cleaning piston tops and valves. I would not however add it to motor oil and drive on it because of the way it effects motor oil. If you leave it in long enough for it to really do anything you are asking for trouble. But it's your engine.

I agree with you totally. There are stronger "cleaners" out there than MMO but, not saying ARX is not good, I'd rather use something that has proven its test of time and has been around for 84 years. MMO has been used and tested time and time again with the "old school" mechanics.

Has anyone ever done a VOA with a motor oil combined with MMO or done a UOA of an engine's OCI using regualr oil and then do a UOA with a motor oil OCI with a MMO combo, using the same OCI and driving conditions to see just how "bad" MMO affects the oil.

Section 7 of MSDS of MMO.

SECTION XII - Ingredients/Identity Information
Ingredient # 01
Ingredient Name BENZENE, 1,2-DICHLORO-
CAS Number 95501
Percent 0
Ingredient # 02
Ingredient Name MINERAL SPIRITS
CAS Number 8052413
Percent 0
Ingredient # 03
Ingredient Name NAPTHENIC HYDROCARBONS
CAS Number 64742525

This is not Auto-Rx it does not do what Auto-Rx does. If you post here and don't know what these chemistrys do to oil ask.

Thanks everybody for your responses. Haven't decided for sure if I will try the MMO but your responses will help me decide. Thanks again

It is not a solvent in the sense MMO and other hydrocarbon solvents are. ARX is a non hydrocarbon product, composed of organic esters, and it does not affect motor oil at all.

Comparing MMO to ARX is like comparing paint thinner to natural lanolin based saddle soap. Both will clean stuff off your saddle. The comparison stops right there though.

ARX actually clings to and embeds itself into motor oil deposits and carbon buildup. It then very slowly liquefies and emulsifies [encapsulates] deposits, to safely suspend them without blending it into your oil and changing it into something else. Your oil therefor remains unchanged, exactly as it is designed to be, for optimal lubrication cushioning and cooling. The emulsified [encapsulated and chemically isolated] deposits are then carried safely to your oil filter for removal.

That is far safer way to remove such crud. It doesn't just break chemical bonds responsible for surface adhesion as MMO and such do, breaking off big chunks which can and often do clog oil passages, and then just blend that soup of semi dissolved deposits and solvent with your oil, changing it into something else, thus radically diminishing it's ability to lubricate cushion and cool moving parts.

Lets face it. Just because something has been used for a very long time does not mean it is the best way to do things. Piston powered aircraft were the only thing in use for a long time, and they too were very reliable also. You can be sure that when jet engines became available, there were those who rejected that new tech also, and they used the same logic you used. Comparing MMO to ARX is like comparing a biplane to modern jet aircraft. Yes they both fly. Once again though the comparison stops right there.
