Mann 1008 oil filter

Folks, I am looking at stocking a quality oil filter that would fit a good range of asian engines, primarily Honda. The Mann 1008 seems to claim the same coverage (didn't check every possibility) as my previous choice of Purolator PureOne PL14610. The Mann can be sourced locally for less cost than I can order the PureOne.

I'm curious if anyone has specific knowledge of this filter (1008) as it seems curious that Mann would *make* a part number that doesn't cover any european models. I suspect they relabel someone else's filter for this application but that's just a theory.

Specific knowledge of the 1008 would be appreciated, or guesses and supposition as to the quality of the filter would do in a pinch

Most Mann Filters are actually Purolator Classics from the looks of them. So you could just use Purolator Classics for the application if its cheaper.

Mann, Bosch, Purolator are usually made in the Purolator factory in the USA as far as the oil filters go.

Thanks for the reply. Have you seen the insides to compare, or are you going on external details like size, baseplate construction, and deal type?

There have been people that have cut them (mann) open and they looks simply like a Purolator Classic with different logo. They are a good filter for the money.

I bought a huge lot of Bosch filters for my 2.4 Scion and they too appear to be Purolator Classics when looking at them. The rubber anti drainback valve in lieu of the silicone one on a pure one Purolator makes me think these are just Black Puro Classics as well.

The new Classics have the efficiency on par with the old blue Pure Ones did according to Purolators marketing.

Thank you for your help. I will be cutting open some new filters I'm trying out when they return for the next oil changes, then compare. I've only used Mann for Euro apps before. Their pricing was good but not surprisingly low. The 1008 is priced surprisingy low, hence the caution.

True.. on the bottom of all the new branded purolator oil filters

It was say MANN-HUMMEL on them

If you buy Mann, look for the part numbers that start with a W. These are the premium quality filters, and I buy them for my Volvo for $4.99 each.
