For my 2018 Accord 2.0T...

Opinions on edge vs magnatec? Small price difference. 5k OCI Max. Thoughts on which one? I know Magnatec seems to do well in TGDI with fuel dilution issues, but on paper edge is a bit ‘stronger.' Interested in your thoughts

You can't go wrong with either for 5K OCI. I've used Magnatec for 6K and it seemed to do the job. Magnatec used to be in the $17-$19 range while Edge was in the mid $20 range. That's why I chose Magnatec over Edge.

Honestly, I'd get the Magnatec.

There's nothing wrong with Edge, it seems to perform perfectly well from what I've seen.

However, Magnatec also performs very well in just about every engine, even engines like the TT Ford 3.5s, which are very hard on oil.

The big difference is that Magnatec is significantly cheaper. I've never seen a bad UOA from Magnatec, and I've seen it as low as $16 a jug on store shelves. The only difference you'll ever really see between the two is that Magnatec keeps more money in your pocket, which is a good thing.

Stop and go is where Magnatec oxidized on me … I would take Edge for that reason any day … and if I was looking for "cling" a good semi on short OCI could help … or if money is no object Redline might "cling" better

BTW … MT used to come as a semi … how much changed when "synthetic" first appeared on the jug ???

Good point. I have to wonder if Grp II+ has made it into the mix. The Noack on Magnatec is quite good though - 8.9% and 6% for the 5w/10w30's.

The golden age of synthetics....so many good options available. When I first joined BITOG it was basically M1 and a boutique brand....

Calling a grp2+ a synthetic is a bit of a stretch but then again it is Castrol we're talking about (clingy molecules ...‚).

OP...
All joking aside, I think dollar for dollar Magnatec seems to turn in great looking used oil analysis pretty regularly from all sorts of engines... and at only 5k oci's, if the price is in your wheel house i'd say run it and maybe do a used oil analysis before settling on it long term.

I just received an email from Castrol UK and they said the Magnatec molecules are also in Edge.

Magnetic is the only brand I've ever used where I honestly thought...wow, this oil actually "did something". My engine was quieter and it used less oil. Now you'd think I'd use it again, but I haven't.

Most people here say they don't feel any difference between brands. My last fill was Magnatec and the car felt smoother right away, now back to M1 and as soon as Magnatec was out I've felt it's running not as smooth as it used to. I'd choose Magnatec over any other oil any day, it also has lower noack which is helpful for your turbo application

That's a good question. In 2006 though, it was a new OEM spec that sort of caught some oils off-guard a bit. Rather than test new oil, it focused on used oil with combustion byproducts in it. Many of the synthetics at the time could not meet it. Now I think all oils meet it.

Without scale information, this looks very unscientific to me
