Hello, I have a very specific question, I am not looking to start another Pennzoil vs Amsoil debate about price/quality, we all know there are tons of threads out there on that. Ive seen tons of tests/competitions/ and arguments about price vs quality , etc and everyone has a different opinion.

Im more interested in a factual answer to a very specific question.

I have read that BOTH Amsoil signature series 5w30 and Pennzoil Ultra Platinum is made on the 'Thinner side" for a 5w30. (kinetic viscocity?)

So, does anyone happen to know which of these two specific oils is made a bit THINNER (for a 5w30) than the other?

Thanks!

Based on what? Typical values from a PDS that doesn’t represent any specific lot or batch?

Also remember it’s actually about the HT/HS. You’d do better by obtaining those values from the manufacturer or blender. Grades are a range for a reason.

Sorry not sure what you mean, based on what... (new at this) im just wondering which oil would be thinner right out of the bottle, brand new....

Let's say someone could tell you that, say, Amsoil is very slightly thinner. What could you possibly do with that information?

According to the published data from Amsoil and Pennzoil, these two oils have the same viscosity, they both say 10.3cst at 100c. This can vary slightly from batch to batch of course. Only Amsoil lists the HTHS, they say 3.11. I would expect Pennzoil Ultra Platinum to be roughly the same though.
